Early V8s like your MUST get their timing belt changed on time every 80,000 miles or 5 years; whichever comes first, or the engine is toast if it breaks.

If you aren't 1,000% certain your belt is "current" then it needs changing ASAP long with the tensioner, water pump and thermostat.

Belt unless you have the later chain FSI engine which came in around 2007/8.

And as above, that belt needs changing ASAP if you have no history otherwise you'll be wondering every time you tread on the loud pedal if it is going to go SNAP!

Two weeks ago someone else on here had bought the kit to do the job but hadn't quite got around to it. His car's up for scrap now.

The date of manufacture is actually printed on the timing belt but, obviously, not the date of install!
