I have a 2008 V6 TDI Touareg that is leaking coolant. I found a hose that was leaking, on top of the EGR valve, lose hose clamp. I tightened it and thought all was good, but still losing coolant some ware? Coolant is laying down on top of the valley and can be seen with a torch its not pouring out but would like to find it. I have checked as many small hoses but there are plenty that I cannot get to or see. Any help would be great. Even a contact no. of someone who knows these things? My location is Nowra NSW. Thanks.

I don't think your coolant loss is from a loose hose but most likely a leak from you EGR cooler as I am going through the same issue right now.

I don't have a major issue as yet but need to top up around 400ml of coolant every 3,000kms. Your dealer can test and tell if the you have a leak, but you already know that.
I think you better prepare yourself to hand over some bills as dealer quoted me last week $3,700 to replace EGR cooler, EGR valve plus solanoid valve, including 13.5hrs labour.

A leaking EGR is a like driving around with a hand granade with the pin pulled, could go off and possibly total your engine so what I will be doing ASAP is purchasing the parts (all OEM) offshore ($1,000) and have an independent euro car specialist do the job, as I also seem to have a turbo issue (oil leak at back of turbo plus a couple of instances of engine going into limp when towing van) so I will do a turbo replacement at the same time to save on labour as a lot of the bits that need to come off are common to either part replacement.
I have found a local source for the Garrett turbocharger (OEM) replacement, new with 2 year warranty, this will cost me less than half the quoted price from dealer ($1,900).

I will be doing this because I want to keep my Touareg as long as I can as to date it really has not cost me a great deal in repairs in 200K kms, (have replaced most of the common fault items that go with this model) as I haven't found a worthy replacement as yet.
VW in their wisdom have arguably "softened" the later (T3) models somewhat and the only model that holds any interest for me now is the 2014 with low range being the last model with it fitted.

Sorry for the bad news but as the cars get older and the mileage gets up we need to expect to put our hands in our pockets more regularly!:serious:

Whilst on the subject, I have been recommended FST Auto Repairs in Penrith (will see them next week) and I have previously used European Car Centre in Mayfield (Newcastle), in addition is there any other independent European car specialists from Sydney through to Coffs Harbour that members can recommend based on personal experience?

I have the same car, hence advise the following. The rubber on all those little pipes looses memory and can start dripping at the clamps (The OEM clamps cant be tightened) some times no sign of a drip drip. Buy some small piping and proper clamps and start replacing the lot. Secondly the EGR leak is a real risk. Install a blanking plate where it connects to the inlet, this is until you get a new EGR cooler.
