Thanks for the compliment. As of now, the starter has not fixed the problem. For my most recent fixes:
Driveline had an occasional “clunk”, found that one of the bushings on the rear differential was shot. Replaced all 3 with new lemforder bushings.
Front air springs also had a leak on both sides, so replaced those with units from Strutmasters. So far so good.
Engine was idling just slightly rough, no codes, but I wanted to see if I could smooth it out. I used liqui moly diesel clean, seafoam, and marvel’s mystery oil and did an injector purge/soak/cleaning. Took it for a “spirited drive” after and it became rougher, now with code for misfire on cylinder 6. I’m also losing fuel quickly, tank level is dropping faster than expected. Oil level has risen so I’m pretty sure fuel going into crankcase. I did brand new injector seals and washers during the last reassembly, but also a rebuild kit for the tandem pump. Usual culprit is the tandem pump, so I will check it out, as well as the 2nd fuel pump. I’m thinking either not enough fuel to injector number 6 due to a leak, or injector 6 is bad and leaking fuel.
Still won’t start when hot, sluggish like it’s harder to turn once coolant and oil have reached temp.
My next plan is to do 1 more engine removal, check timing, check fuel injectors (May have to remove heads to see them spray) and if I remove heads, then possibly check my piston ring gaps one more time to make sure I’m not having binding with heat expansion.
I probably won’t get to all of this for a while, truck is just parked while I knock some other honey-dos off my list. I’ll post findings when I have them.
