Reason I am asking, is the shop is quoting me 2 hours for each downstream sensor! Seems crazy!

I don’t have a V8. Mine is a V6 and with the o2 sensor tool it takes 5mn.
Do you have the tool?

In fairness to a garage a five minute job for an amateur is not a 5 minute job for them.

The mechanic has to spend time doing stuff we don't think about like:

Going to the service desk to get the next job.

Reading the job card.

Entering the start time on the service computer.

Getting the car key.

Going out to the parking lot.

Finding the car.

Sanitising it.

Putting a seat protector on.

Fitting the steering wheel protector.

Laying down the paper floor mats.

Driving it round to the service bay.

Opening the hood.

Running the diagnostic equipment.

Deciding what needs to be done.

Going to the stores.

Getting the part.

Going back to the car.

Getting out the tools.

Remobhbg the old part.

Fitting the new.

Running the diagnostics again.

Recording everything on the job card.

Taking the car for a test run.

Parking the car up.

Taking the key back to the service desk.

Agreeing the job to be invoiced with the service desk erk.

And so "a five minute job" is now at least an hour which has to be paid for.

Understood. I would gladly do this by myself. But as I stated on the earlier post with pictures, is that I can’t access the sensors. It is extremely tight, almost like more of the car needs to be dropped/taken off to access. Either way the shop has it now & will be letting me know how many hours they think it will take before doing anything. I'll update then. Thanks all

If you read the above posted PDF carefully (which comes from the original VW repair software) it advises to remove the cat to do the job..
I personally have no clue if it can be done without on this model (my V10 had engine to be extract for that)..

that would make sense if it is indeed required to do this particular job.

@bderoziere Thanks for posting the follow up.
Too late to help you but there is a O2 Sensor removal tool that get can in tight spots. O2 sensors are often hard to remove, needing lots of penetrant and/or heat, so 2 hours is not excessive time to do it. Glad you got it fixed.
