For some reason my '14 Touareg doesn't have the usual fire blanket under the hood. Does VW no longer put the blanket under the hood anymore?

Likely a bean counter looking to shave a few bucks. My '07 V8 did not come with it so I bought one from VW. Was around $55 I think. Then I had to get the clips. Maybe it was because I got the last year of the T1 and you have the last year before the refresh. I'm sure your parts dept. can order it.

Where fitted, it's more likely to be noise insulation material, not a fire blanket as such.

My 2004 had the noise insulation under the hood but my 2008 doesn't

What is this fire blanket you speak of?
In many cars the Underside of the hood is fitted with a material that as some mentioned hushes the engine sound, but it designed to fall from the hood and help smother an engine fire God forbid one happened. The plastic clips will generally melt allowing the blanket to fall onto the engine.

All of my Audis have had one, I didn't notice my VW didn't have one till this weekend when dad was looking under the hood.

My 2013 Lux did not come with a hood blanket/insulation/sound absorber. I called the dealer and they are not finding one for any Touareg, but said if I had a part number, they could look it up that way. So, do any of you have the part number for a T3 hood blanket?

Thanks for the information, Xeno555. I was told that Hybrids and TDIs came with insulator pads/blankets, but V6 gasoline models did not. I just found the part for a 3.0 TDI & Hybrid. I cannot imagine the hood mounting holes being unique to Hybrid/TDI models, so it stands to reason that the 3.0 part would also fit a 3.6 gasoline model of the same year, based on that logic. However, I will certainly defer to anybody's personal experience with this situation.

Try 7P6863831A

Might need clips, too.

Thank you, Mr. Fincher! That part number is correct. Do you know how many clips are required? I counted eight mounting holes under my hood, but just being thorough.

12 clips, 7 for outer edges, 5 for center area. Appear to be all the same clip.
