search "stepper motor" as well. grab an empty parking lot and turn it lock-to-lock...does it feel like one or more of the tires is locking/shuddering/skipping? If it does, the stepper motor may be the culprit.
my front differential gave out - or was heading in that direction - after 114000 miles...that was more like a whine/grinding noise at various speeds....while coasting, etc.
