I was stopped at a light, then suddenly no pickup power, I had to pull into a parking lot. Engine shut down, won't start again, won't even crank. Center display says 'Brake Assist Workshop' and ECP+Check Engine lights on.
Towed to VW mechanic - they couldn't figure it out - wasn't the brake sensor. They tested no compression at all on one of the cylinders (but I think it should at least crank?). Said something may be up with the engine (timing chain/some physical damage to the engine that doesn't let it turn over).
Questions:
- Would a faulty break sensor prevent the engine from starting?
- How much on average to rebuild the engine? (assuming worst case scenario, something like timing chain tensioner breaking)
- I estimate the current value at about 10K (78K miles, '07 V6). Would it be worth repairing it in the latter case, or just parting it?
