I am still puzzled by my transmission issue where the car does not shift past 4th gear.
My question is,
Replacing the TCM, do I need to program it using VCDS or is it just plug and play?

So you are saying to replace a TCM is not plug and play and VCDS does not have anything to do with it?

Look up Component Protection.
I'd be shocked if a used TCU wouldn't trigger that, but I don't know for sure on a V10.
I've had CP on my own egg with OEM, legit, original parts, just because a controller wakes up on the wrong side of the bed.....
