This is slightly different than what I call the Noobytoogy trans reset, so I'd thought that I would post it up here.

This comes from a transmission repair group that send out technical bulletins, how to's, etc.. that I follow.

1. Turn the key on, but don’t start the engine.

2. Move the gear shifter from Park to Drive.

3. Press the gas pedal all the way down, making sure nothing is between the pedal and floor, like a floor mat. (added that you should feel a little resistance towards the bottom as you hit the kick down switch)

4. Hold the gas pedal down for at least 30 seconds.

5. While still holding the gas pedal down, move the shifter back into Park.

6. Turn the key off.

Anyone want to give it a shot?

The Nooby one seems to be working well, just curious to see if this does anything differently...

I'll add this to LOL

The procedure is now complete.
Test drive the vehicle to confirm that shifting has improved.

You can use this procedure on any Volkswagen or Audi that has an electronically controlled transmission

I'm not sure I understand..??

It's in the first post

It just like I have more than once about the so called std reset of holding your foot down.
The one you have posted the steps for is just a variation on the std version.
What I mean is where is this written either in VW documents, Aisin documents or some other company documents?

To me this reset is just one of those perpetuated myths that keeps getting put up, and no one has ever produced a formal document!

IIRC this was from an AAMCO document. I can look for it later if you would like.

This is known as a quick reset, you can do a full reset aka adaptation with the factory tools, or VCDS.

Thing is they work. Now whether that's mere perception or what, I'm not fussed!

My version came years ago directly from the VW Touareg trained technician who looked after my old motor and that was good enough for me!!

The one thing that's always omitted is that you should look for faults using VCDS or the equivalent before the reset.

Please find the document so I can put this to bed once and for all.

Here is an old one.
https://www.scribd.com/doc/52799079/Volkswagen-Relearn-Procedure

Another from https://www.snapon.com/Files/Diagnostics/UserManuals/VolkswagenAudiVehicleCommunicationSoftwareManual_EAZ0031B01D.pdf

Important Tips for Transmission Basic Settings
• Basic Settings 04/000 also resets transmission learned shifting adaptation to 0 or base point. Some early transmissions have no Basic Setting selection. To reset adaptation on these, switch the ignition on without starting the engine and press the accelerator all the way to the floor, turn ignition off, let up on accelerator, restart engine. Drive the car and monitor shifting. It should shift at default with no learning. Early transmissions may require an extended road test to learn new shift adaptation.

Yes, you just push the start button with your foot foot off the brake pedal. The cluster will light up but engine won't start.
