Hi All, Like Steve I too have recently towed this rig to Busselton. It was the first tow and there is nothing but good reviews of this vehicle. The V8 was brilliant, fuel economy that would upset a few Landcruiser owners.

The point of this request is the use of the VW genuine tow module. Price from dealer, bar and module 2600.00. Price from Parkside, all up 2250.00. This included Redarc 3 brake controller, Intervolt Electronic Battery Isolator, and wiring, break away wiring and plug and 12 pin trailer plug and their module. They also installed my cable for the rear van camera.

The only complaint I had with van on was the beeper when reversing. All else working flawlessly. The shift points on the auto were fine, and held 7th most of the time between 95 - 100kph.

I can purchase the VW module and fit it, but really am wondering if it would be worthwhile.

Any comments would be appreciated

We found that the car was happy enough in 7th gear at about 95 - 97kph. Fuel burn for the run down was about 15 - 15.5l/100klm. The run home was during bad weather and side/head winds. It was up around 18l/100klm - and it's uphill for the run home :)

We run a McHitch coupling which provides the rear parking sensors with some excitement even when the van is not attached. It's annoying as anything.
Knowing that the caravan is not linked in with the car security system when connected to the car via the tow harness is negative for me (in it's current state without a VW Tow Control Module)
The proximity sensors still worked when cars etc were overtaking us. As soon as the rear radar detected them coming past the van, the mirror housing lights operated.

I have ordered and received a genuine module with all cabling from eurocarupgrades aka VW Touareg Tow Bar Wiring Kit OEM LED 2014+ - Australia Tow Bars & Performance store
At a rrp of $495 + postage it's a better price than our local VW stealership. The unit can be fitted/coded at European Car Mechanic | Service, Repair & Performance | Euro Technik in Nedlands or Freo. Eurocarupgrades/Australiatowbars.com.au do not provide any coding details (claiming all cars are individual and requires specialist knowledge to code correctly to 'your' car. We'll see how we go on our own first.

Also, it is a Westfalia kit, which is the genuine product authorised by VW.

Our car has a Hayman Reese towbar with a no name tow control module which (as far as I can tell) does nothing.

Thanks Steve. Sounds like we have the same bar and wiring. Would appreciate if you can post any improvements with the new module
