I too have severe transmission problems with my 2004 V6 Touraeg and for several years now. Everytime I brought the vehicle to the dealer, they told me there was no problem. They did not feel the banging when the car shifts from 4th to 5th. The last time I brought it back for the same problem, approximatley 2 years ago, they told me to use the tiptronics to prevent that problem because that is how an "automatic" should be driven. Now my warranty has expired and I am bringing the vehicle back to the dealer yet again. The car continually bangs when shifting and it sounds as though the transmission is going to fall out of the vehicle.

Not only am I having a transmission problem which they refuse to admit to, I also have a differential that has to be replaced which I believe has been caused by the faulty transmission.

Why should I be liable for a VW problem which they have been aware of for years!!!!

Have they performed a TCM (Transmission Control Module) reset. Most problems can be resolved by resting the TCM. If it persist then yes you have a problem and a new Transmission Valve Body needs to be installed OEM unit cost are $1400 / rebuild for $600. Install about 3-4 hours @ $100 to $125 / hour.

Can this be done with the VCDS? Also, wasn't there a ROW programming for the Transmission that made shift-points better? Can't find the thread.

I'm in the same boat. Same vehicle same year same problem. Using Tiptronics doesn't solve the problem either. Initially I ignored it because a friend of mine who owns a VW Passat has the same problem and he told me it's a common issue with VW transmission. But now, after reading about Valve Body replacement, I'm worried. If I don't do the replacement, will this eventually ruin the transmission?

It is a bad valve body and needs replaced. You need to find a more competent dealer that has a clue.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try the TCM reset just to see what that does for it. After awhile I'll try the ROW setting too, I do hate how it shifts pretty early between 1st and 2nd (usually just under 10mph). I'll see if it causes it to shift a little later. Maybe I'll consider the throttle reset also. You think that throttle reset will help the 1st to 2nd hard shift I described earlier? Guess it wont hurt to try it either way.
