Sounds like the battery is dead. Same thing happened to ours a few weeks ago. The battery was 5 years old at the time and just decided to die overnight. Was a pain in the butt to replace since it didn't even have enough charge to move the seat back and forth to get it out. Had to place it on a trickle charger to maneuver the seat and get it replaced. After that everything went back to normal.

No, when you put the key in and tried to turn it on there would be a clicking sound from under the steering wheel and nothing would happen. Eventually it said immobilizer active and the key was stuck in the ignition. We were able to get it out by rotating the key to the left repeatedly. So it sounds very similar to your situation. Either the battery is just too low to start the car or it has a bad cell. You can try trickle charging it or jumping it and seeing. Once I put jumpers on it, it tried to turn over but I couldn't get it to start so I ended up replacing the battery and everything is better now.
