I have been under the impression that the Touareg is the ultimate SUV, able to drive on and off road, in rivers, up mountains or whatever.

Mercedes GL has recently been introduced here in Norway. I havent been able to test it yet. But it looks nice, and apparently quite capable of getting through what ever obstacles it may come across.

So I am getting a little curious. How is the Mercedes GL compared to Touareg? I believe you guys in the US have had this car for a year now, so maybe you know?

Can it match the Touareg? :confused2:

If you truly need room for seven, the GL is the way to go. Better than the Q7 or any of our American made luxury SUVs. But for performance, off-road capability and engine choices, at least in the U.S., the Touareg is the hands-down winner.

The Touareg comes in a V10 TDI, Mercedes has yet to get it's act together to give us the GL 420 CDI, only a wimpy V6 CDI is planned. No date yet on a GL 550. Meanwhile, Audi has announced a V12 TDI Q7. Now we're talking!
