Hi everybody

Here is my T1 V10 project :) I bought it very cheap - not running - they gave up!

After charging the batteries fully and following a couple of threads here on the forum - I managed to make the car start :) Wow...

It's is not a perfect car - but the challenge of rebuilding and making it a dailydriver is rewarding. I will try keeping is on a very low budget - if that is possible :)

Lots to do - but right now the main issue is properly the high milage engine - 330.000km.

It leaks a lot of oil - looks like it is coming from everywhere :) I will clean the engine and sort out where it leaks.

Some pictures of the project: I will try on make it a rebuilding thread if you like it

Hi all

More progress in the build. Test fitted the other rims and wheel size - I like it! I will go that setup instead.

Getting ready to find the braking issues - I found what I suspected. I really don't get how people can drive around in cars in such state!!! Well nothing to do about other than fixing it :)

Next stop complete rebuild of the front brakes and calipers. I also found a bad balljoint on left lower control arm.

Well - it surely hasn't been my day :) I started out rebuilding the brakes in the front - no worries. When I was doing the righthand side I wanted to change the air valve. It was leaking even tough the airsuspensiomn and airvalve was change in a workshop 2 months ago. Done by previous owner.

For my surprise the new valve also leak - it is like the o-ring is too small. No matter what I do - it keeps leaking. I have tried al sorts of solutions - nothing works! I really don't get it!

So after hours of frustration - I change a head bulb :) succes

A little more progress to day - got my new tires mounted. I also found that the rear brakes must have a go also 😉 So I have ordered new rotor, brakepads, mounting kit and calipers. In the frontend I mounted the left side lower control arm. I have ordered the right hand side also - it is worn out in the inner bushes.

Well at some point I guess the brakes and steering will work properly. Stille haven't found a good solution the air valve.

Tip for the parking brake:

Once a month partially apply the parking brake and slowly drive 100 metres.

This sweeps rust off the drum friction area which otherwise, because the parking brake is normally only applied when the car is stationary, doesn't get cleaned up.

Good picture of the three wheel locating uprights on the hub.

Had VW not tried to save a few grams on the Generation 2 cars by shaving these they probably wouldn't have ended up with the SWS (steering wheel shake) fiasco that probably cost them millions as well as infuriating goodness knows how many hundreds, if not thousands, of customers worldwide.
