Hi everyone.
I have a 2006 Touareg 2.5 TDI.

Recently i have noticed this noise coming from the steering wheel and it usually happens when the car warms up a bit, say after half an hour of driving and it keeps on like this until i turn off the engine and leave it for few hours.

The noise occurs whenever i move the steering wheel, in any direction.
Nothing lit up on screen and everything seems fine, just this noise coming up.

What do you guys suggest could be causing it?
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

Thanks for your messages guys.

I will check the fluid level tomorrow and will post here the update & as for the rubbing, it doesn't seem to me that it could rub to anything, just when I move the steering wheel this noise happens and i deducted that it comes from the wheel since that's where it's heard from.

Any other thoughts in the meantime?

Thank you. I have also looked through the car manual and i've got a glimpse of all the fluids on the car.

However, i haven't found a definitive answer in there as to when i should change/refill them as needed. And i haven't found a page where it would specifically state the fluids needed for this R5 engine, for all categories.
Only specific one i found is engine oil - mine is 506.01 - as the car doesn't have DPF. So that would be either 0W-30 or 0W-40 upon a quick google search.

As a matter of fact, could you guys tell me specifically or point me in the direction for each type of fluid needed(brake, coolant, etc) what is the recommended VW fluid? And also, which one of these need changes, or refills, and when?

Thanks a bunch.

Only use VW fluid.

They don't normally need topping up. Look closely for leaks.

For the power steering I just syphon the reservoir once a year and refill it the fluid about three times. That way you get pretty much a 90% flush. Just go to the dealer and get your fluid... something about vw fluids and steering racks that must be maintained to prevent problems... same seems to go for the brake fluid....
Thank you. Do you by chance know the exact name of other fluids the car uses? I just need some codes or something so i know what to search for!
As car manual doesn't state those.

Can't your local auto parts store look these thing up for you?

I live in quite a rural area, i'm not from US, but from Europe - a small country on the map.

The car services offered around here, even the official VW services up in the city, don't quite have the all-knowing mechanics: that meaning that they all use general knowledge when dealing with a customer's car issue.

So for example, on the car i have the wiper arm issue, which, before coming here on the forums and finally getting proper info, no one in my country seemed to hear anything about this whatsoever. We also have a volkswagen national forum - no one knows Touareg issues.

Went to an official VW Parts Dealer to get myself the upgraded wiper arm - no one knew this problem ever existed.

And lots more.

There's a bit of a trust issue and that's why i came here to get all the healthy info. :)

I've managed to gather these so far, are they correct?

Brake fluid: Dot4 - change on 100k
Engine oil: Castrol Magnatec Diesel 5W-40 DPF (VW 505.01) every 15k and filters.
Transmission: 75w80 - change on 80k
Steering: G002000 - needs changing
Lastly, what about coolant? I haven't got anything on that.

Thanks!
