Does your Touareg’s steering wheel shake at highway speeds?

Were you wondering if you have shake, and if it is normal?

This is a video compilation showing 5 different dates of my Touareg steering wheel shaking:

Another video previously linked here on ClubTouareg by user jvincent:

There are may other threads that reference containing lots of information.
Two of the primary discussions:

Hope you don’t have the shakes, and if you do just be patient it may be a while before your dealer and Volkswagen get them sorted out for you.

I will update the video and the threads when my shake is solved.

If you have any questions regarding this condition please read my posts in this thread or send me a pm.

Shake Minimized Video

For those of you shakers looking for a reference as to what no shake looks like, just look at the wheel below 60 mph.

I have been pretty much shake free for 3 days now since putting my 19" wheels back on.

This video shows the steering condition without any shake.
It also shows some light shake which occurs on a questionable road surface with repeating seams. I feel in this case the video makes it look a little worse than it was.

In my opinion the Touareg is currently in a shake minimized state.
The instance of the negligible shaking shown is very infrequent opposed to when it was previously exhibiting the shake condition frequently to almost constantly.

My 2013 had a shake that started when the dealership rotated the tires. I had to take it back and then they re-balanced the tires (which they charged me for) which got rid of the shake. Unfortunately my shake has come back but my 20K service is coming up so I'll wait for that to be done.

FWIW and not knowing if this is even related to your issues: we bought our CPO 2010 and it had highway shake with increasing frequency from 55-70mph. Very bad steering wheel shake.

We brought the car back for a tire balance and it then shook from 65-75. Moderate shake.

One more time after that, no shake at all.

Come to think of it, I have a slight rhythmic shake but I assumed it's my used tires, which it probably is.
More likely to be one of those fancy Californian carrot juices making your eyesight wobbly!

That's fascinating. The way you set up the video is smart. You must have experience in stuff like that because I would have never thought of that.
No prior experience. Just occurred to me that it'd be easier to see movement with less than ideal optics and video.

Thanks.
