Hi Folks,
just keen to get some feedback from other Treg CR owners on the transmission shift. So the CR has the ZF 8 speed which is a fabulous box. The car has now done 33k

I am finding that the shift (upwards of 2-4th gear) produces jerky / jolty type of symptoms under low acceleration. There is also a sensation of "in-between" gear shifting. So basically the gear changes say from 1-2 and then there is this pre-take or in-between shift sensation that is felt through the box before the next gear change...so 3rd. From 3rd to 4th is also there as well.

The setting is in the normal setting which what I use around town and most of the times. In sports mode, the shift is a lot quicker and the symptoms i am describing is less evident.

The gear shifting is certainly not as smooth as a landrover for example (as i had a LandRover Velar which had the same ZF 8 speed) and its rather unpleasant and feels unrefined.

So my take is a its a laggy software calibration rather than mechanical but i could be wrong.

just keen to hear experiences from other owners.

Are you sure you have a ZF? On this side of the pond we have the Aisin. What year?

Yeah, you lost me (since we don't get EFF all over here).... but I would tend to agree with your thinking that this is simply a TCM programming issue, not a hardware issue.

Hi Bruce, I'm getting the same symptoms, but intermittently, but as you describe. I was thinking about starting a thread on that, but you beat me to it! Under harder acceleration it generally shifts smoothly. Generally tends to be smoother when everything warmed up too, but still present. I was wondering if it could have been uneven acceleration from the engine. Either way I'm thinking maybe a software issue too. I had mine serviced about 6 weeks ago and asked about any software updates for anything, but was told none other than the centre screen. I'm thinking about taking a demonstrator for a quick drive and running a scan with VCDS at the same time to check the software version in that to see if it's been updated!

Hi Bruce,
I'm on the north side of Brisbane. Bridgeman Downs. Hopefully you're not too far?

Warm regards,
Mal.

I see, i had been thinking that it could possibly be that, i suspect there is some sort of lag in that operation. i have never felt that in any other cars for example Toyotas don't do that nor does the JLRs.

i assume some better calibration might address this then.

I see, thats a shame as i am in Perth. The dealer was advising when a "field specialist" was going to be in Perth and have it look at the vehicle. so it would have been good to perhaps team up. i am also preparing a complaint to VW. if more people complain on here then i will be able to use this as leverage.

It’s a ZF sourced gearbox.

Do you actually feel it or just notice it because you re watching the tach? The Aisin box does this as well, it's not a new thing for manufactures to do.

I have the same issue. It doesn't appear on light acceleration, but in more brisk acceleration situations. Only in the bottom 3 gears and even then intermittently. I reported it to the dealer at first service and they couldn't replicate it (they said). They also said they were no software updates pending.

They wouldn’t have any updates because no one has complained but I will. Hopefully more get on here and raise the issue, then I can use a leverage.

VK is probably worth more than the treg these days. If you can feel it like that it's definately not right, it's normally done to smooth out the shifts, not make them jerky.

thanks for the trust @Blade74 , I'm still learning :)

the CR 8 speed gearbox or the OD5/ A8A is a zf box(8HP)
Refer volkswagen self study 584 for further information

for the few thousand kms I have driven the CR I couldnt fault the shifting.

What kms do you all have @Bruza005 @Malaudi @Steve104
if all three of you are experiencing the same issue then there's something to it. you could raise a ticket straight with vw australia
if i were to take a punt then I'd say its something to do with the mechatronic and its control unit.....hopefully a software upgrade will sort it out......

can someone try and switch off all assist systems in the menu and see if at all it makes any difference....
