After a long time dreading the Timing Belt replacement I had to get it done. After many quotes from Shops and Dealer I decided to do it.
I got the parts and rental tools from Blauparts.com = $910 with $375 of course to be returned upon rental tool return.
My Friend and I read all the directions on ClubTouareg and included instructions from Blauparts. After looking at the engine bay, We decided we were not going to remove the front body work, etc…
We removed the fan shroud assembly and accessibility was good.
We spent about 7 hours to do the whole job…PIECE OF CAKE!
Don’t have any doubts about doing this, if you have even just a little mechanic experience, some basic mechanic’s tools and with the excellent directions here in the DIY… You can do it.

Thanks for the inspiration, but I suppose I'm kind of glad I didn't do my last timing belt change as a DIY, as the water pump bolts were purportedly seized and snapped upon water pump removal at the dealer. They were given to me in in plastic baggy(after I requested this be done so), and still keep them to this day as a souvenir.
