I didn't really notice this the first time I turned on my headlights driving home from Las Vegas, NV to Los Angeles, but I did notice it last night.

Turn running or headlights on, and all the footwells light up and stay lit.

If I have my headlights on, and I am driving, at night, why would I be looking down at or near my feet, when my eyes need to be on the road?

VW, what were you thinking?

I find it so unnecessary and unbelievable that they would even think to do this. More bulbs to burn out? should I equip them all as LED's rated 50,000 hours when they go?

What if something falls into YOUR footwell while DRIVING and you have to quickly remove it. Would you rather do so in the dark or light?

They are just courtesy lights, probably more so for your passengers than yourself.

The footwell lights are found more on upscale luxury cars, and can be controlled through the convenience settings (at least on my 2007, not sure about your 12). You can dim them or turn them off. I occasionally turn mine on just for fun! It is helpful if someone does drop something at night, and can't find it. I personally love all the attention to detail, and hidden features. Hope this helps! :)

Love the footwell lights! As others have said...easily adjusted to suit your preference.

I thought this thread was going to address something really interesting as in "What were you thinking when you designed a premium 4x4 that, in T3 format, now just looks like a bloated Golf?" and "What were you thinking when you stripped out half the functionality of the T1/2 from the T3 spec sheets?"!!

At least you can turn the footwell lights off if you don't like them!

Unfortunately I can't make a T3 look good!!

I think the title of this thread has proven it's worth... and I hope the folks at VW get both some good feedback and some good ideas out of it, providing their Googler German Translator doesn't get lost in translation on some good old American Slang, but that's what Urban Dictionary is for.

VW What were you thinking...and fill in the blank.
Mine would say,"Why did you make the knobs and buttons with that black coating that rubs off too easily. Brand new it looks and feels expensive, but after a few years it wears out and looks cheap."

You just didn't phrase it right!

"VW, what were you thinking when you put dim back-up lights in my T3?"

To which the reply is:

"VW, what were you thinking when you put appallingly poor halogen headlights in the T1/T2?"!!

I have not tested that feature yet Noobie... The Xenon headlights do rock on the T3... I'd already modded and put a set on my 2012 Passat aftermarket. Simply amazing how much better the visibility is with 4000K 35w bulbs.

Jesus nooby, over 4,000 posts here and without looking I'd guess the last 6 months worth have been 98% negative. Why bother hanging out here if you're that disgruntled with VW and the TReg?

Seems like a waste of time with little enjoyment.

Good to see you both read them all!

I like my Treg plan on keeping it a while, no car design is perfect but also "VW what where ya thinking with the wimpy non sliding side visors for the east/west sun"(nooby points?). The dual visors are nice though but a telescoping one would not have been that much $ in manufacturing costs. Can parts be gotten from an older model and swapped in?

Otherwise I have some retrofit ideas of my own as well as a lil tray that will anchor in one cup holder hopefully not making it much smaller and over the On/Off road knob for laying smokes/keys/pens etc without having to scratch the veneer. It would slide under the adjustable arm rest, have a lip on it on 3 sides and extend to the bezel of the shifter and maybe line the thing with leather. I can do black and brown easy corn silk no.

I might also have the seat covers taken off, sew some 2 inch pile velcro on the side bolster area and make like some hook velcro side bolsters out of tempurpedic foam you could wedge toward the middle for more or less side support. I will show some picks, just gotta find some matching leather should not be too hard I make orthopedic braces and have a many suppliers and know a good auto/resto upholstery shop.

Agree on the visors. Should have extenders.

VW, what were you thinking when

1. you picked the very limited palette of colors for the Touareg?

2. you didn't give the Touareg the umbrella pocket in the door which my B6 Passat had?

3. you deleted blind spot detection and smart cruise control for the North American market?

VW

What were you thinking not putting decent sized bolsters on the front seats? I get no automatic seat movement getting in and out of my Passat, because the seat bolster supports my Typical fat arsed American 6'5" German Dutch 240 # frame without hitting the seat switches. I get a different seat position almost every time I get into a Touareg... or is this just a dainty chick a fil car for the cute lil missus to look pretty in?

Getting close to 35 continuous years of VW ownership in one form or another. We really do like our 04 V8. Under the what were you thinking column tho -- What were they thinking with the shiny chrome trim ring/mirror around the shifter? Very distracting when the sunlight hits it.

Still trying to figure out how to cover or replace it with something non-shiny.

AGREED!!

That little piece of "beauty ring" around the shifter has blinded me numerous times. Try the blazing Arizona sun on that magnifier ring. Painful!

Nooby's suggestion for a fix is perfect. I will work to release the ring and paint it to match the matte black plastic.

Any pointers to the process Nooby?

I think it just lifts out - someone showed how to do it to access the red release catch that allows you to get a dead Touareg out of park and into neutral to move it onto the tow truck.

If you can do that then it shouldn't too hard to prep and spray it matt black or whatever.

VW - With the seat lowered all the way down, why do I keep whacking my head when I get in...
Why did you design my brakes to squeel every time I take off.
For that matter, why did you design my brakes to leave so much darn dust on my wheels.

VW...what were you thinking when you designed the treg to do everything except a 3rd row. Its the ONLY negative I find in this vehicle. Why do I have to buy an Audi for that 3rd row?

Also, what were they thinking wrt to the tow capacity and GVWR ratings. With a fully loaded trailer of 7700 lbs and 770 lbs of tongue weight, there can be nobody other than me and my wife in my V10 technically. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

You need a lighter trailer .... ;)

VWOA... what were you thinking... No stick shift option. Seriously? Where's the fun in that?

I don't know much about other towing vehicles, but are their weight ratings also published in a similar fashion? I mean, if you load it up to its full capacity, there isn't muchroom for stuff in the tow vehicle? I'm talking American vehicles specifically.

VW, what were you thinking when you made the T1 headlight lens? Its the ugliest part of my treg with all those spider cracks that CANT be buffed out. Every time someone sees them, they say "I'm surprised you haven't had those buffed out"
