For the life of me, the VW instructions are darn near useless on a T3 and getting the HomeLink programmed and activated to open the garage door.

I will be calling HomeLink to email me directions again for this tedious process.

Rolling codes, holding a remote in front of the VW badge on the grille for 3 seconds right on the badge and stuff like that comes to mind the last time I got it to work on my 2012 T3.

First stage use the remote for the opener and the home link button. Second stage use the learn button on opener and follow the instructions in the owners manual. I recall something about pressing the programmed button three times. Gotta do both stages with rolling codes.

Niner, I bet you have a genie... I have had the same issue with many vehicles, homelink and rolling codes.

The trick is when you are at the end step holding down the button you want to program, after you held the button for the couple of seconds and it didn't work, let go and hold the button down again for a couple seconds, and if nothing happens immediately let go and once again push for a couple of seconds.

Usually by the 5th time it will find the code. It can take up to 20 times.

It is like programming a tv remote where none of the codes seem to work that is listed and you have to go through pushing the up button again and again to find the right code.

Got it.

T3 Procedure, 2011 -2013...

Turn on ignition, do not start the motor.

turn on infotainment center, go to "car" , go into "vehicle settings" scroll down to "garage opener" follow directions to which button, 1,2, or 3 you'd like to program, press it. Get out of car with Genie remote, hold it right on the front "VW" Badge, press Genie remote and hold button down for 5 seconds, until turn indicator lights flash 3 times. Release button.

Get inside car, follow directions on infotainment center, press button 1 2 or 3, same as before, hold for 3 to 5 seconds. If door does not close, pull cover off of head unit of Genie Garage door motor, and press the reset button on the garage door motor. REd light should be blinking on motor unit

Get inside car and again push and hold Home Link button number 1, 2 or 3 for up to 5 seconds, until rolling code is found and garage door starts to close.

Answer question on infotainment center on did door open or close, yes or no.

You are finished.

I think I covered this in an earlier post, search for it. Had to do it half a dozen times on Genie since I got the T3.
I'll search or write more in the am if you guys can't locate the info.

I can see what I referenced earlier was an RTFM post

For 100% success xylene and niner posts should be combined.

Especially with Genie :banghead:
Start by parking in the garage, not outside. Under or to right of opener. This can make a big difference.
Start process in Touareg and use remote by grill to get to blinkers to flash three times.
Then hit a opener button in car.
Hit code or reset button on garage head unit. Red light will blink or stay illuminated.
Hit same button in Touareg. Hold for a few seconds. Release hit and hold again. Release.
On the second to fourth overall press of Touareg button the garage will move.
When you are hitting button on Touareg the red light in Genie should blink rapidly and I think when the code is accepted the main light blinks briefly.
Once door moves tell Touareg it is programmed.

Experience: 6 different German cars in past 3 years on a late model Genie.
3 Touareg 2 Beemer 1 Merc.

Suggestion: Get a new opener drive. IMHO the newer model Genies are POS in terms of functionality, reliability, and range.
Have done 3 different Liftmaster and they worked first time every time in each vehicle.

The Genie is the Devil of all garage door openers. PIA to have to remove the cover of the motor head unit with screws in the most PIA locations to remove before gaining access to the reset rolling code button that will make the red light blink.

Best to park the car inside the garage in it's normal parking spot when doing this handshake process of programming your Home Link.

Programmed my Homelink last night in my 2013 VR6 Sport. I have a rolling code opener and the Program button 1 process worked well by just holding the remote in front of the VW badge. Problem I am having is when I programmed button 2 with a second Opener code in the same manner. Now when I press Button 1, the Door for the Touareg opens and closes as it should. When I Press button 2 BOTH the 1st and 2nd Door opens or closes!!! I tried programming Button 3 with the second Openr Code and the same thing happens... Button 1, opens and closes the intended door. Now Button 2 and 3 Open and Closes BOTH doors at the same time... Anybody heard of this before, and if so, is there a known fix? I've rest all buttons and reprogrammed just Button 1 so I can open just the 1 door for the Touareg.

2015 Touareg HomeLink Universal Transmitter

I recently traded in my 2012 Touareg TDI Executive and got a brand new 2015 Touareg model with all the previous options. I had some issues programming my garage door opener and wanted to lend a helping hand if somebody is in the same predicament. I purchased my Touareg from VW Canada and there is a possibility my model is different from the US model. Hopefully my programming issues also work on US Touaregs.
The car Owner’s Manual regarding the programming is good, however I made many attempts with the garage door remote control pointing at the VW logo in the front of the car but was unable to get three flashes from the signal indicator thus telling me the electronics did not receive the code from the remote control. The battery in my remote control did open my garage door but I thought the current was not enough and I changed the battery, unfortunately to no avail.Next, I changed my approach and pointed at various areas at the front of the car during a new 5-minute programming cycle pushing the remote often and looking for the telltale sign of the signal flashing. Eureka it worked! WAIT, if your garage door operator system is one with a rolling code you must also train the garage door opener by triggering the HomeLink button you programmed in your car. You must read the owner manual of the garage door opener and follow the programming sequence to program it to receive the signal from the HomeLink in your car. Basically, the procedure is the same as programming your hand held remote control.
Finally, I would like to tell you my garage door opener is a 14 year old Genie Pro Stealth GPS-IC Series Automatic Belt Drive Garage Door Opener complete with Intellicode Remote Control and Series II Electronics.

You should also note that you cannot activate the home link garage door opener unless the ignition is on, ditto with programming. It took me a few tries to figure that out, I kept thinking my (old style opener) programming was being erased.

Liftmaster solved!
1. Push button 1 and 3 on homeland, 20 seconds, flashes, this erases all previous codes.
2. Program the remote, by simulataneosly pushing remote and 1 of 3 homelink buttons. It will flash, this is now accepted. You are finished with the portable remote now.
3. Go to Liftmaster, push learn button and get back to car, 30 seconds lime limit, now push any button 1 to 3, without the remote, it will flash.
4. You are done.

IIRC, in my 2013 and 14, the antenna is behind(ish) the VW logo. That's where you point the remote at. That was step 1. First time through I tried the remote part from inside the vehicle and it didn't work.

Step 2 was easiest if someone else was in the car and pressing the button you programmed with the remote, while pressing the learn(?) button on the opener itself.

Homelink, Touareg, Liftmaster, Programming

Touareg instruction book is horrible. I am reprinting these from a nice person who got the instructions from a Porsche manual. Why is it Porsche gives good instructions, VW not so much????

Get a ladder and open the white light cover on your Liftmaster. Locate the learn button, it is red or orange.
Get your Touareg into the garage as close as possible but don't allow your VW to be where the garage door might close on it, and still be able to get up the ladder.
Open your Touareg screen to garage opener programming and get to the screen for the button, 1,2, or 3 that you want to program
Take your garage remote and go to the front of the car and press your remote button until the front VW lights flash three times DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING IN THE CAR YET
This is where instructions are different-go up the latter and press the learn button on your Liftmaster until the light goes solid, mine was orangish yellow
Then get into your car and press the button you want to use, you have 30 seconds
Now your garage door should open
If this works copy, print and tape it into your owners manual

Worked first time for me after feeling insane from repeating the 2016 Touareg manual instructions. Thank goodness for kind people on the internet who share.

Yes, turned in my 2011 TDI Touareg today and now have a 2016 TDI Touareg. Funny I couldn't remember Homelink programming from 7 years ago. Must be getting old, but that's due to the Touareg manual, which makes you go CRAZY! Got it back from kind people on the ClubTouareg forum, thanks again.
