Hey folks,

I’m seeking feedback and experience if any of you have updated your TDI since the ECU update for “dieselgate”.

We had a 2007 V10 TDI but in December 2017, it was sideswiped and my wife and I fought insurance to not total it out. Nevertheless, here we are. Sadly without the Treg we loved for 4 years.

We bought a 2014 Touareg X in December, and it has been given the settlement money and the fix, by the previous/first/only owner.

I bought a Malone FlashZilla v3 and I’ve paid for and loaded the stage 2 software ECU remap. I haven’t run it yet. I’d like to get your experiences if you’ve done the same thing. I also plan to run a Mustang dyno (AWD) for a before/after to get a true baseline of the HP and TQ the software is designed to do.

It currently (stock, with the ECU patches for the “fix”) seems really sluggish and the shift points are unusually higher RPM. I’m hoping the Malone tune will undo that BS.

If you’re a TDI owner and have successfully re-remapped post “fix”, can you chime in here? Bonus points if you’re in Minnesota.

Nota bene: We don’t care about warranty ramifications, as we never had a warranty on the old one, we don’t go to the dealer for any work, and at some point we might make this an off-road rig anyhow.

Yes, several times since purchase — and it seems the shifting I’m seeing is normal. It’s as though they want the engine to perform this way to use higher RPM and perhaps it’s designed to regenerate more often and use more AdBlue.

I spoke with a local business that offers the tune. The issue is if you have this done and you have a problem with any of the warrantied parts involved in the emissions repair the dealership will see you have modified the ECU and will void your warranty. The only option would be to set the ECU back to the stock settings before bringing it in for warranty work but there "may" be a marker in the memory that the dealership will see and yet another reason to void the warranty.

For these reasons I opted not to do the tune and will leave it stock. The car runs great with no noticeable power or fuel economy loss for my needs anyway. If you're not concerned about the warranty then the tune will give you a good performance boost.

Sorry to hear about the V10.

As you know my 2012 Touareg had the Malone stage 2 with dpf and egr delete. Loved the way it ran!!! Totally woke it up. Pulled great into the upper rpm's and the turbo lag was virtually gone. You will have no regrets!

Currently in a 2015 Cayenne, not fixed as yet. I would have no problem at all going with the stage 2 tune again. I will keep the emissions in place due to the warranty.....for now.

Interesting observation.


There have been complaints about the 2.0 Tdi engine fix where people experience more engine noise, rougher running and, on the autos, lumpy gear changes.
