Well, I did not have much time to get heat function working, so I decided to get it done. I bought slip ring with H index, installed and heat function was not working. The issue was coding and after fixing coding I turned with steering wheel, then everything went wrong.

Now it says, that G85 sensor is defective. But when I installed old slip ring, steering wheel module is not reachable. How it could happend? Old slip ring was perfectly fine, working and now its not. I deleted heating coding from RNS also.

Slip ring with H index is still reachable, but old one not. New one is reachable only when fuse #11 is plugged.
What could change? Any hints guys please? Thanks
Issue with non-reachable old slip ring solved. It turned out, that new ring (H index) is supplied also through fuse #11, but there was also another one, that was blown. At least car is working again a new ring will be send back.

Did you calibrate your new clock spring (or what you call slip ring)? The Code is thrown because the new G85 clock spring needs to be calibrated.

Check my post or look at the Rosstech reference. T3 Steering wheel paddle shifters

Sure, I did calibration. New slip ring was working fine after calibration (no diag erros, no lights on dash) until I turned with steering wheel. Column cover was last thing to install. So when I turned with sw to install screws something happend...ABS/ESP light went on, problem with gearbox, problem with air suspension.

Then I have found out error in sw control module: 00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85): Defective, which is not possible to delete and calibration also cannot be done.

UPDATE: So I have found the issue. Slip ring was not new as declared by seller. It was not centered to 0° and when I turned with steering wheel, G85 went out of range. I have managed to repair G85 sensor and now its working properly :)

Hi,

I have looked through this thread but cannot see my answer anywhere... If it is already there forgive me for asking...

I have seen a nice 2011 Touareg 204 BHP for sale with decent mileage and a good service history, pristine bodywork and interior, except, the steering wheel has quite a few imperfections in it and looks like Mr T had ben driving it with all his gold rings scratching the leather and wearing through it in a few places... Thats the only thing that lets it down...

Now, the car isn't a flappy paddle gear change, and I was wondering if this could be added, which I think the posts here suggest can be done, but my question is, is the Passat steering wheel of the same age region with the paddle shifters compatible with the 2011 Touareg? It looks identical in the pictures on a google search?

I have an acquaintance who has a perfect Passat wheel he took off the car when he added a heated wheel to his Passat estate a year or so ago... And its free!!

Now the wheel is the only thing putting me off buying the car apart from I would really like the paddle shifters too which this wheel has... Anyone know if this will fit??

Thanks...

FF

The part number is meant to be 3C8419091BF the last two letters were difficult to see but look like BF...
I would say go for it but...
  • 3C8 419091 BF - Passat
  • 7P6 419091 NGB - Touareg
there is possibility that wiring will be problem. Maybe they have the same construction but when I checked multiple images, wiring is different.

One version is without small box inside a other one is with box, but I don't see what type of connector is there.

No, its about 75 miles away...

Looks identical to the ones in the pics, absolutely no difference whatsoever...

Which pic is the Touareg in the ones you supplied?

This is from Touareg. Look into middle, there is a small black box. It has socket at bottom where u connect wire which is on the airbag and goes through big connector on slip ring to the steering wheel module.

To all the guys who did this retrofit,
Yesterday i installed a heated steering wheel with paddles and after coding the paddles i've noticed a change in the shift pattern. If before it was at 1500rpm, now its at 2100rpm. This happened to anyone after this retrofit?

I shift with the paddles, that's why I did the mod, it shifts at the RPM I tell it to. LOL

The wife is lazy and rides on "D" but I tweaked the TCU coding to the Cayenne coding as well. Plus, they "fixed" our TDIs over here in the US and forced higher shift points for emissions after deiselgate so it's usually shifting around 2100-2500RPM depending on how hard she is on the throttle (bit of a lead foot).

@Thumper3, any change in gas mileage after the Cayenne coding?
I remember i used that coding a few years ago, for a very short period of time, and i noticed some engine braking compared to stock. Maybe with the paddles, the Cayenne coding could be an improvement. I used to drive manuals and really enojoyed the engine braking in winter times.
Thanks!

I changed it YEARS ago so memory is a bit fuzzy but obviously nothing significant enough that really made me notice. However, I don't think the Cayenne map has much impact if using the paddles, I only threw it on there for the wife. When I get in I pull the lever back to put it in SPORT and then flip it into manual before I even drive away.

Yeah, it never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who think ABS replaces AWD with engine braking in snow and ice conditions.
