Just tested everything again (including the vibrator motor on external power, all circuits from the vibrator to the steering wheel module, cables...everything). All are good but on dirve test wont vibrate. The lane assist sign turns green but the vibrator wont start

Problem solved...it was all about coding. Activating the paddle shifters, lane assist was automaticly disconnected after the first car start-up. So I tried to find a coding that was good for lane+ACC+paddle shifters witch I couldn’t find online (seams like nobody retrofited paddle shifters on car with lane assist, ACC and heat). So I tried to figure out a binar coding that activates all of them and this is it:
Binar coding: 10111101
Alfanumeric coding: 000CBD
Hope this will be useful for others too!

Hey guys.. I finished my steering wheel swap last weekend and had a few pictures and video to share. I initially had an issue with the horn sounding while turning the wheel. Seems like maybe my first installation of the airbag pinch a contact or something. Slid it back off and put even force to pop it back in and it seems fine now. Horn functions only when pressed. All functions on wheel seem to be working fine. Despite several codes including horn ground short an ACC fault and another unspecified. I am hoping I have been able to clear the faults after driving 50 miles but I will see on next scan. Haven’t tried the ACC yet but everything else seems fine. My biggest concern at the moment is the fitment of the airbag. I can’t remember how it was on my old wheel (guess I should have been more observant).. but this one seems kindof loose and the gaps seem rather large. I was wondering if I damaged the springs on the two clamps trying to get the bag off? I was hoping someone could tell me whether this seems right. The wheel is clamped on but it wiggles some. Thanks so much for anyone willing to help me out.

Hello !

HerrDoc

Sorry for bothering, i am doing the swap with paddle shifter equipped wheel. I also have lane assist. I wanted to ask you did you swap also the black control modules in which the cables go inside the wheel or leave them as they are ?

It is exact sam situation as you. I moved the lane assist motor to the new steering wheel. But also moved the control module from mine wheel to the new. When i started the car everything was OK no errors nothing. But paddle shifters wont work. Tried coding but i get error 31 request out of range. Now i am thinking maybe i didnt have to replace the modules.

I would be very grateful if you answer this massage.

Thanks in advance! :)

No need to replace the modules. Not sure if that’s your problem but I also swapped the lane departure warning system into mine and simply plugged in the device. It works fine on mine. But I doubt the module would be an issue.. maybe the coding is not correct.

UPDATE:

Huge shout out to HerrDoc !

Used his:
Binar coding: 10111101
Alfanumeric coding: 000CBD

And everything works perfect! No switching modules again, just coding.

just to add:
1.connect vcds to the car and laptop
2. switch ignition or start car and open vcds
3. test connection and save it
3. open module 16 steering wheel and check for error codes. If they exist, delete them.
4. Again, open module 16, coding, long coding. From the second dropdown menu, choose Multifunctional Steering wheel with Tiptronic installed
5. The third dropdown menu will show Lane assist not installed.
5.1 So i tried to make it Lane assist with head unit installed and then save and click Do IT!, But got error 31.
5.2. So i just left Multifunctional Steering wheel with Tiptronic installed with Lane assist not installed and it coded succsessfully
5.3 The test drive showed that Paddles work, but Steering wheel wont vibrate, despite lane assist turning green when hit the late. Also when you push the button for assist on the top of the right switch for blinkers nothing showed.
5.4 Then stopped, and put the codes from HerrDoc
6. Now i am enjoying the ride with everything working.

Once again many thanks!

Now lets try Sign Recognition.... :)

Glad I could help!!!
Wish I had this codes myself when I swapt my steering wheel, but as much as I searched online, nothing turned out...I even bought a second steering wheel just for a another vibrator thinking that I broke mine when swaped. So, when I saw it didn’t work again I started to analyse the codes and finally figure it out (like I already described above). Once again...glad it worked out for you too!

Hello guys,

I am quite confused. Can someone explain to me meaning of stickers inside steering wheel?
Example: one sticker on bottom (metal part) has number 7P6419091C X0U and sticker on top says 7P6419091C NGB.

So which one is correct? Steering wheel seems all black and I didnt see any brown color.
Thanks!

Strange, from what I gather it's the colour code ie the last three letters.
If it's black go for the latter

Well, mine finally arrived. Middle sticker says X0U, but SW is black/black so I dont care :ROFLMAO: Worse part is that I need new spring so now I am quite sad .
On previous pages I saw that spring needs separate +/- for heating. Does it need switch also?

Hello everybody.
I needed your help because I'm new to this subject and I do not have the necessary knowledge.
Recently i bought a steering wheel to replace the one in my car because this steering wheel has more functions. Like the existing one, this steering wheel has a module in the center where the radio controls, the lane assist vibrator motor and the gearbox levers are connected.
Assuming this module is not protected, is it possible to transfer all the settings, adaptations, coding, etc with VCDS or VAG CAN from the old module to the new one? If so, how is it done?

That unit inside steering wheel is just switching module, which is not accessible with VCDS. Everything coded in 16-Steering wheel contains unit which is together with slip ring.
So, you don't have to copy coding, just adjust it after replacing steering wheel to get all functions.

In addition to adding a steering wheel with paddle shifters, has someone also added the heated steering wheel function to a non-heated steering wheel car?

Reason being, I have a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, and the correct clock spring. I'm looking to install this week, but I want to have the correct info so I don't leave my rig stranded in my driveway.

Has anyone done this swap? If so, what/how do I need to code the new clock spring with the heating element added? Do I need to bring it to VW to do any sort of calibration with the steering angle?

Fitted my £70 paddle wheel today, those airbags clips had me swearing a fair bit. Once the airbag was out it was no more than 10 minutes including coding. The wheel I have is heated so I just need to work out what I need to do to get that working next.
