Trying to finish out the install.... anyone know the correct coding for a '13 Exec to add a heated steering wheel with paddles?


Also an image. I think this may be a later steering wheel as it is smaller in diameter and not as thick, with the white backlight. Almost looks like a Jetta wheel with Touareg buttons and heat... Any thoughts?

Also somehow even with 000C15 coded, the left and right switches are not working properly. The left side switches control the right side functions. Right side switches appear disabled (no backlight). Is it possible one of the codes above bricked a module?

Do you have the correct clockspring installed and wired properly? What tool are you using for coding? VCDS let's you check a box to add heat. When you coded it, does the heated steering wheel option appear in the climate menu? If it does then you should have the correct coding.

Its definitely the correct coding for steering wheel in picture which has paddles and heat. Appears there is separate coding for heated steering wheel beyond this module, could be 09, 5F or 17 perhaps.
Will have to check where else you need to code for it.
To confirm you have the button installed on the dash for heated steering wheel? Also, do you have the option in the RNS850 to turn on heated steering wheel?
Steering wheel heating can be turned on via the physical button on dash above nav screen or via the RNS850 under the climate option.

Yes. I have a '13 Exec which had heated steering wheel from factory. The wheel I think is from a '15 and newer though. I found out that the RNS-850 from the '11-'14 is different than '15 to '18. So could be that.


heat works as is (no paddles) with 000C15 coded. Paddles worked with 000035 and 000CFD but no heat. I'll try swapping modules next.

Are you using VCDS? I recall it had very good description in long coding helper.

heated Steering Wheel coding

Today I mounted a heated steering wheel without paddles and replaced the clock spring.
Power and ground cables (PIN 2 & 1) are connected to SB11 (10A) fuse.

Now I have a problem with the coding.
I use vag com and do not have a long coding helper :-(

The steering wheel module 16 I encoded with 0000C15. That should be true. OEM was 000015.

But what else needs to be coded so that the heat button is displayed in the RNS850?

Can someone help?! Thanks in advance...

You have to enable heated steering wheel in Auto HVAC module and reboot RNS850.

According to the previous posts in this thread, I would like to confirm that I've successfully retrofitted a newer clock spring version (4H0953568M) to a 2013 car.

Bit 7 of byte 1 must be set to 1.

Can I ask where you found the wheel?

Obviously all the direct links from 4 years ago are dead but even searching by part number does not yield any results that are in stock. This is a must have mod for me and I got the wife to sign off on it if I add the heated wheel option, but can't find a thing.

I finally just got my new clockspring installed and heating hooked up today. If you don't want to source eBay connectors, you can get them from VW. They were in stock here locally. The part numbers needed for connectors are 000979225E for the plug that connects to the clockspring. This is a piece of wire with the same connector on each end, so you only need one. The plastic plug has a little clip you hold back, and then it sides apart horizontally, and the connectors then can pop in from the back. For the fuse box, the part number is 000979227E. This comes with two ends also, so you will have a spare for later. This also pops in from the back of the fuse box, but theres a long purple retaining bar that needs to slide about 2mm before it will go in, then it is secured once you move the bar back. Coding 000C35 worked for my steering wheel with heat and tiptronic. VCDS wanted to do 000435 with long coding helper, but heat didn't work. The change as mentioned here in HVAC brings the button to the screen. Thanks for all the help, and may everyone have warm hands this winter!

Also, I got my steering wheel off German eBay and had a friend bring it back from Germany. Same for the clockspring.

This is my forst post here.
I have found this thread very instructive, to the point that a couple of days ago I finished retrofitting a heated steering wheel to my T. Many thanks to all involved!!!

I purchased both the steering wheel and the clock spring from eb...de. As for the wires and connectors I had some laying around in my garage.
With regards to coding, 000C15 worked for me as I only installed the heated steering wheel.

After finishing the installation and subsequent to coding the HVAC and steering unit lots of faults showed up. I got rid of most of them but one relatd to the engine and cruise control. It disappeared after swithching off the ignition for a couple of minutes and then back on. Other than that, everything was quite straightforward.

Exactly the same for me. Lots of codes prior to calibrating new clockspring, then the CC issue just stayed for a power cycle of the key lol.

Any tips on successfully getting the airbag module removed? I have my phone camera set up on my instrument cluster and I can see that I am releasing the clip needed to release the module but it is just not "popping out" ?? Tips??

Yeah, but how hard? I am pulling a decent amount and it just doesn't seem like its really budging much. I can see the clip is off the tab but I'm hesitant on how hard to pull. I watched a video of a guy doing a steering wheel on a Passat on it literally just popped out... ??

Merry Christmas to everyone. I have just retrofited my 2011 Touareg with a paddle shifters steering wheel following the exact instructions given here by you (thank you very much). Also, my car being equipped with lane assist I have swapped the vibration generator from my old wheel to the new one. After all put back together and coded, on test drive everything ok (heating, paddles, vibration for the lane assist) except the horn. I removed the airbag again and found out the thin horn cable was not connected. Problem solved, but now lane assist vibration wont work anymore. The lane assist indicator turns green when leaving the lane but no more vibration. Any idea why? I can hardly imagine the vibrator breaking down just by removing the airbag, connect the horn cable and put the airbag back on. Once again, it worked perfectly 5 minutes ago.
