I have on mine around 35k and as well some rust in this axle area.
What is the best way to get rid and protect this area from rust.
Mine does show only some pixels of rust and not so bad as in this attached photo.

thanks for help,
Robert

I would say that is normal and not to worry about it. VW has one of the better warranties when it comes to corrosion protection.

Anti-Corrosion

12-year, unlimited distance warranty against Corrosion Perforation.

That rusting is normal - the rotor hubs are untreated.

The rust on them can, however, bond with the alloy wheel making it hard to get off.

Regardless of whether you bother treating the rust [personally I wouldn't] remove each wheel and put a small smear of copper grease on the back of the wheel where it mates with the face of the hub.

then replace the wheel and torque the lugs correctly.

More specifically, it's called the rotor hat. As others have said, it is relatively harmless where you see it but can also corrode where he mating surface of the wheel sits. Again as mentioned, a dab of copper or aluminum anti-seize compound solves the issue.

As for aesthetics, it's really ugly and I routinely paint this with a heat resistant paint to keep this looking pretty and making it easy to clean. I use VHT from Auto Zone/ Advance, etc. it's like $6-7. No need to remove the rotors. Just spray in place.

Here is a painted rotor hat pic I had available from one of my other cars.

Just making sure everyone is aware, that this warranty only covers perforation of the sheet metal, and not surface rust of any kind.

Still the best in class warranty though.

But to be honest, when half the car is plastic, the odds are lower.

You all know the entire front end is plastic, minus the hood and chassis? The hood is aluminum.

I did not know this till the accident a month ago when my wife hit a deer. Just sharing.

But agreed, best warranty out there on an SUV!!

to do this with VHT paint I assume have to remove the brake calipers front and back.

I read the rear caliper bolts are a pain to remove them.
Anyhow spring is coming and would like to do this job.

Anyone know the torque specs for the caliper bolts front and back?

200Nm front and back? Pls advice.

thank you,
Robert
