Hey guys,

Has anyone managed to fit a front mount intercooler on a T3 TDI? I've seen the thread with the W2A intercooler and found a Russian video for an A2A but they're both on T2.

Is there any issue with removing the standard intake piping (namely the Y piece)? I seem to remember there's a flap in the Y section, hoping it's a manual flap.
Does anyone know the size of the standard piping? Hoping someone has measured them up, saves me ripping apart my daily driver.

The transmission is aiming 8 speed made in Japan so I used 9 liters
Dans le champ gauche mon amis!

The AISIN transmission uses 12L of oil and I highly doubt transmission oil temperature is a problem with the OEM setup; even if you do heavy towing. It is regulated by a thermostat. I would also be very careful with the oil you are using in there, small differences in oil properties can have BIG impact on component.

No concrete reason other than I like tinkering with cars and it gives me something to do. Ideally I'd like to get more noise out of the car and minimise the length of piping.
This isn't where I would use my time. If you want a little bit more noise, there are a few options; none of them touches the intercooler piping LOL.
1- if you want to keep emission stuff intact, simply delete the muffler.
2- If you don't want to keep the emission stuff, downpipe + DPF delete.

I don't know how much optimization can be done, the OEM configuration isn't bad. Bigger FMIC & piping have more volume and more lag.

I should've specified more noise from the front of the car is the goal.
Car has been tuned and EGR deleted, have to keep DPF because Australian EPA laws. Will delete the suitcase muffler.
There are restrictions in the standard piping (sound dampers) that I'd like to get rid of and I think a good flowing intercooler wouldn't create much more lag with direct pipe route compared to the twin cooler system stock.

Take it from me, installing a front mount intercooler on a vehicle that was designed to have dual side mounts is a large undertaking and will certainly lead to unreliability and future hassle when things break. Unless you find an absolute reason to do it there isn't one. The dual side mounts work extremely well.
