Hi, I just had a weird experience with my '08 T2 V6 27K.

Returned from grocery store, unlocked all doors by pressing open button on remote twice, opened rear hatch by pressing hatch button on remote, closed rear hatch by pressing hatch close button, opened driver door, got in turned key, nothing.

When I inserted the key the radio and MFI turned on like normal, but when I turned the key the MFI and radio turned off, and the key would not remove.

When I pressed the thumb button on the gear level I heard a click and the key could be removed.

I put the key back, radio and MFI turns on, turn key, radio and MFI switches off, need to press gear level thumb button to remove key.

I get out, lock the car using remote, unlock using remote, get back in, same problem.

While I'm sitting there wondering what to do my wife calls me, I explain why I'm not home yet, she asks if the battery is dead, I recall reading an article on this forum about V10 TDI that allows you to start car by turning key anti-clockwise, I try turning the key anti-clockwise not expecting anything, magic, MFI and radio turns on, I turn key clockwise and the car starts.

Was the anti-clockwise turn a coincidence?
Any ideas?

Thanks
P.

Since I'm not getting any replies, I thought I'd add some more info, and speculation.

As I was parking a Q7 parked right next to me, we got out at about he same time, we pressed the alarm button at about the same time, the two beeps sounded exactly the same. I assume the T2 and Q7 shares a similar immobilizer system. When I returned to my T2 the Q7 had already left.

I have once before had the same experience with the power going out when I turn the key, but that was my fault, I was trying to start the T2 using my wife's A6 key.

Maybe the Q7 confused the immobilizer?

What is supposed to happen when the key is turned counter-clockwise in the T2 (that unlike the V10 TDI only has one battery)?

Not possible for the Q7 to mess with your car unless the guy tried to start your car with his key. Could be a fluke as I have not heard of this one yet myself.

This sort of thing has happened to a few of us with the keyless access (buttons on the door handle). The Treg refuses to start, the instrument panel goes dead, but the lights and radio work. Check out this thread and see if it applies to you:

Thanks for the link, seems very similar, difference seems that my radio and instrument panel turned off while the thread mentions the radio stays on.

I really don't know if the key turned counter-clockwise had any real effect, or if it was just coincidence.
