Hey guys, I don't know if my fan is having problems in our 2010 Touareg TDI but when you guys turn on the car in the morning or after it has been sitting for a few hours...does the main radiator fan start spinning?

My 04 Jetta TDI rad fan won't come on until a certain engine temperature but I've bee told that on the touaregs it should be alwasy on.

Can anybody check for me sometime in the morning?

2010 tdi......Just got back from 2 hours of 80 mph driving on route 95 I turned off the engine and no fan. Just went back outside and checked for you and no fan on. Put the key in the ignition, turned on the electronics and not the engine and no fan. I have read similar posts on here about fans staying on for about 10 - 15 minutes after engine was turned off. You may want to do some further searching on here.

Good Luck
Thank you Zagg...I've read the threads about the fan staying on after engine is off...I completely understand why it does that.

I am just wondering, with the engine cold in the morning...would the fan turn on. Even after driving for a bit, if it's not at the operating temps the fan in my opinion should no go on.
Yeh....I realized I missed your point/question. If my memory serves me right I have never heard my fan running under any condition unless the engine was hot and running. In the mornings I stop at a 7-11 to get coffee about 2 miles away. I turn off the engine when I go in. When I come out I cannot remember ever hearing the fan running or when I shut the engine off to go in to get coffee. I would think that within about 2 miles the engine is still kinda cold for me.
Fan should`nt come on when cold I know it sounds weird but ive heard it can be a sign of battery about to die may need to test battery but also could be faulty temp sensor

For me, having a fan running right off the start seems wrong. From what I understand about engines(gas/diesel), they are more fuel efficient when they are at operating temperatures.

With that said, I cannot see why Volkswagen Engineers would want the diesel engine to be cooled when it is already cold...making it not as efficient as it should be.
My 3.0tdi's fan never runs usually--i have got it on once tackling a very long soft boggy beach in 38 deg.c and that was low speed only. Temp went a degree or 2 over 90 then. They are remarkably good at regulating their temperature. My old Audi S2 had a 10-15 degree range between cold weather running and peak of summer sat in traffic.
It is not normal and I would get it checked out if I were you. Mine does not come on when I turn it on first thing in the morning.
I think you guys are reading my thread wrong since I probably wasn't clear enough. My rad fan doesn't come on....well when I fired up the touareg about 2 weeks back in the shop, it reached the middle idle temp and they weren't on. I just figured something was wrong but when I think about it, they should be that way.

I am glad this feedback from you guys assured me nothing is wrong with the rad fan :)
You're right - I saw the thread when you posted and also made the assumption that your fans DID turn on and you were seeking confirmation from others that they should not!

My 2010 TDI did this when it was really hot or after being driven hard. I wouldn't worry about it, better to cool down than not to cool down.
Mine would run for a few minutes afterwards and then shut off.
