I did this job at a VW shop where a friend technician took care of everything.
I was allowed to attend the repairs. This job can be done at home if you have the tools and the time.
So here are some tips and tools.
36mm tripple square to remove the big nut which should be replaced.
A counterhold tool, either the vw 3145 tool or a custom made one. More on that later.
Locktite 648
High temp sealant.
An air gun which can go over 130nm (36mm nut torque). The counterhold tool should be secured to avoid any damage when the air gun hits the 36mm nut.
If you're working on a lift you need someone to apply the brakes to be able to remove the propshaft. You also need an engine/tranny jack to support the engine because you will need to remove the gearbox carrier and bracket.
If you're doing it on the floor with aire suspension in extra off-road you won't need someone in the drivers seat to aply the brakes. The handbrakes and the tranny in P mode should be enough since the weels will be on the the touching ground. You still need a jack to support the gearbox and the engine.
This is just a quick note for you guys there.
