With permission from the guy who makes these in Australia, (dragline1570), I am starting a new Group Buy thread for mainland United States (Sorry, AK & HI) Touareg owners who want to buy a REAL METAL skid plate for their Touareg.

The actual price of the skid plates will be the same, but the aim is to cut down on the $300+ USD cost of shipping each individual one.

Curious as to what they look like? See this thread:

http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f66/skid-plates-usa-208865.html

Per the above thread, dragline1570 has the following skid plates available:

- T1 V10 pre dpf filter
- T1 V8

- T2 V10 with dpf filter
- T2 V6 TDI
- T2 V8

- T3 V6 TDI

So, if you have one of those vehicles and want a skid plate, post up here on this thread. Please DO NOT send ME a PM! Post all questions, etc, here, so that all can see and benefit.

Since there are a few people from the Denver, Colorado area who are interested, I am thinking we could have them all delivered to my place (I have room for storage.) and disperse them from Colorado. I could also personally deliver to Phoenix, as it is not too far of a drive and may be taking a trip there later this year, anyway. If we have a huge interest for a different area, we can look at delivery to a different location, too.

As far as payment goes, all of that will be handled through dragline1570. The idea is to group items together to reduce the shipping costs to the USA.

From Colorado, I am thinking direct pickup in Colorado (80525 zip code, but I can meet you in Denver, too) personal delivery through Touareg members here in the States, UPS or Greyhound shipping, depending on final shipment size.

I won't copy the names from the previous thread. If you are still interested, post up here and tell me WHICH SKID PLATE you are interested in and I'll add you to the list.

Let's bring some REAL skid plates to America! :- )

I guess it is time to wrap up the sign up and start arranging for this group buy.

Let's plan for closing registration on July 5th, in the USA. After that, we can figure out exactly how much shipping will be and how we will divvy up the costs. As mentioned, I may be able to transport the one to Phoenix, but we'll still need to ship one to Oregon.

The clock is ticking, folks! Sign up now so you don't regret it later! :- )

I'd be interested. I'm in Boulder, CO and I've got a T1 V10 TDI. What's the approximate timeline/price?

$620 Australian Dollars + whatever shipping charges there are.

Plan is to wrap up and confirm interest of all parties on July 5th. Then we will coordinate with dragline1570, figure out shipping, pay him and then he will have to get busy! LOL!

One day more!!!! (Admit it, if you've seen Les Miz, the music is now in your head....)

For payment, we are going to use Paypal for both the deposit and final payment. The BUYER will pay all fees associated with the currency exchange, credit card (if used), etc.

Shipping to Denver (well, Ft Collins, really) is looking to come un around $1,500 AUD. This is an ESTIMATE ONLY. If someone has a truck height loading dock that these can be delivered to, the price may be adjusted.

Then we will have to figure the best (cheapest) way to get one to Portland and two down to AZ. My personal trip to Tucson may or may not be happening this year. But we'll figure something out.

For any resulting shipping costs stateside, I was thinking that we could split that evenly, as the buyers who are local to CO also have benefitted from reduced international shipping because of the group buy. Let me know what everyone things of that idea.

LAST CALL!!! This group buy closes tomorrow (Eastern Time, for convenience.) July 5th, 2016.

Two hours, late, but it is time to declare this group buy CLOSED.

The FINAL list of participants is:

FSJ Guy: 2008 V8, Denver, CO
philthyphil: 2010 V6 TDI, Denver, CO
alhutch: 2005 V8, Portland, OR
mtbrooster: 2009 V6, Phoenix, AZ
alfissimo: 2010 V6 TDI Flagstaff, AZ

It looks like someone may be making a run to Flagstaff and we may have to all pitch in to ship one to Portland.

At the moment, I think we were thinking of having everything delivered to Denver (or somewhere nearby) and then distributing them form there. We could all split the costs of delivery to Flagstaff and Portland, I think. How does everyone else feel about that?

My flatbed deck height is 38" high. Standard semi trailer is about 48". Does anyone see an issue of dragging a 300 lb pallet off a 10" drop?

Otherwise, we'd have to deliver to a place with a forklift or pickup at a commercial dock.

I don't mind delivery to me (Fort Collins) and running a bunch down to Denver/metro area. But if someone has room in Denver, that's fine, too.

If Flagstaff is OK with waiting, we can deliver to his family member's house.

If shipping to Portland is $80, for the same money for gas, I can hand deliver it to you. It looks like an easy 2 day drive.

It's up to Drag if he wants to open it up again. I will leave that up to him.

But we are currently planning on shipping ALL of these to DENVER, COLORADO (or close by). If you would need it shipped elsewhere from there, the additional cost would be on you. We have already arranged transport for our Portland member.

Not trying to be rude. Just letting you know what has already been arranged.

Just an update for everyone. The skid plates arrived (as stated above!) and most all have been installed. These things are beautiful! Well built, appear to be strong and they mount DIRECTLY to the engine cradle. Well worth the $$$ in my opinion. 4 wheeling season is mostly over for this year in Colorado. But I can't wait to hit the trails next year and not worry as much about ripping vital parts off the underside anymore.
