I’ve owned only street cars until I picked up this Touareg around St. Patrick’s day and met up with a group of college friends for a Easter weekend trip through Death Valley.

Per usual, they were all surprised by how capable this vehicle is and even the features it came with in 2006. When it came time to air-up, the onboard compressor allowed me to go around twice before most of them were done. I’m loving this sleeper 😎

If you select the closest picture and click (+) on the pic you should be able to read the tyre markings as 265/70R17.
Right on the limit for a 17" from memory....

I run the same size tires and rotate a 5th in at 2000 mile intervals to keep tread at same depth. You can take a heat gun to that little area where the tire rubs slightly at wheel turn and you can eliminate the rub. Looks like fun!

Very cool!! you picked a good time to go..before the heat really kicks in.
Only about 80-90º mostly, it was quite nice!

I need to get in there and clean the driver cowl drain so I'll give that a shot.

Amazing. I came here looking for help sizing wheels and tires for my 2005 V8 and stumbled right on to the perfect post! I'll be probably buying the exact same wheel size and tires. Any recommendations on getting a good deal? I'm in SoCal (San Diego).

I believe they are. The basket, no. I just picked up the car as-is so haven’t really checked out the bars yet.
