I was driving east from SW Michigan to Portsmouth, NH (one day drive, 15 hours for the 1,000 miles). I was a bit road drunk when I hit that bridge. It freaked me the hell out. I actually stopped and got out and stretched for a few minutes when I came around the corner and saw it. Weird... I drove that trip the next year and it didn't do it to me. Maybe because I knew it was coming.

Where exactly is said bridge. I've driven that area quite a bit, but can't place it. Is odd... ah, now I see why double yellow lines: opposite lanes of traffic closed for construction. C,ya was it under construction then too?

that bridge is I-90 crossing Hudson River just prior to crossing into Massachusetts from New York.

it is the Castleton Bridge. The railroad bridge is the Smith Memorial Bridge.

Only crossed that one once 50yrs ago, going from Niagara Falls to Boston.
Cpt Sully, that the review board tried to hang responsibility on. Great performance under pressure guy; how many people would think of landing a jetliner on a ice cold river? That took balls! And most passengers didn't even get wet! Wonderful outcome, tragedy averted. Can see why the passengers travelled to an affair to honor him.

Another pilot hero, sadly don't even know his name. In the early '60 a jet fighter had malfunction over Tucson. Rather than eject and allow the plane to crash in a populated area, the pilot ordered his navigator to eject, then flew his plane in a straight dive into an open field, surrounded by buildings on Davis Monthan AFB. He was the only casualty! A true hero.

most water sources today are polluted.
No matter what the water source happens to be, I always trust my Berkey Water Filter to make the water clean and drinkable and filling a few water bottles or hydration packs with water from my Berkey Water Filters saves me a ton of $ - especially when folks are getting $5 per bottle! I can put mud in my filter and clean pure drinkable water comes out - seriously.

the only thing the wifey wants for christmas is a big berkey. I want the plastic version and wants the metal version. it has been on the list for a few years now. thankfully our city water comes from
sebago lake which is pretty clean and actually tastes good.

I have the Big Berkey and the Go Berkey and the Berkey Shower Filter too.
the filters get replaced about every 3-5 years. You can check their “scratch and dent” section for deals too. Honestly, these things pay for themselves within a year - compared to having to buy those $5 bottles of water at the stores!
and if you think your lake water is pure - think again. Get it tested out of your tap and be ready for a shock. Even well water is bad in most places these days.

yeah, not saying lake water is pure but compared to boston tap water I grew up on it tastes pretty darn good, I don't know now but as a kid growing up boston city tap water had a very subtle metallic taste to it. I also remember as a kid assuming all water tasted that way. the wifey has been on an anti-fluoride for a long time, like 10 years now. I just laugh because fluoride is the least of my concerns, being in construction all of my adult life I have been exposed to all kinds of things chemical and biological. the upside to that is I'm surprisingly healthy and never get sick. I'm lucky if i catch a major cold once every 4-5 years. even when I caught the dreaded 'vid after being exposed to it left and right for two years it was in and out of my system in just under 3 days...hooray!

Well, it is about time for me to point my Touareg to the west (again). Route will be mainly on I-90 From Boston Massachusetts to Coeur d’ Alene Idaho Area. Planning to start this trip on 9-23-22. I will post notes and photos along the way, as usual.

cooler weather today, blue skies and clouds on the drive into New York via “the Pike” in Massachusetts and the “Throughway” in New York.

As I got closer to todays destination the traffic really picked up - guess everyone wants to get out for a weekend.

My Touareg, my dog and I are going to rest up and get an early start in the morning.
