Hi,

Today I try a new road for my T-Rex.After some pics (wich btw you can see in my personnal galerie, comments welcome  ) I went to some off-road, mostly based on sand (river sand type).
Got STUCK! #-o #-o ! We should be attention on the weight of the T-Rex! On a river sand he just slides sideways...(and special with these Tarmac Bridgestone tyres) without traction and follows the terrain glides......
Option low gear (used 3 speed or I'll just dig and gets worst) No traction control- OFF and Diff LOCK!
Air suspension on max height...
Back and foward dozens times until find a way.... to get out of the Ego Smashing Hole! Slide dozens time and almost hit some trees (in fact we cut one to get out without a painful scratch on painting.
Conclusion:
Weight and not required tyres will put you in trouble. Strengt (400 nm TDI R5 engine) sometimes just make you drift more and more to the downhill.... [-X

Cheers

Did you try airing down your tires? :-k Dropping the psi down to around 20 may well have saved you the scratch in the paint. It's nice to know we have a vehicle that can pump it's own tires up.

Hi,

I did a litlle, still may be it was not enough!
Anyway with 400 nm of torque the R5 keep on moving....

A major was the air suspension. Amazing how much it holds!

BTW I got a major alarm indication (gearbox- and it's a manual 6) after get out of off-road. Turn off and on the T-rex (Im a IT man so.... it look "natural" to me :drunk: ) and every thing went fine, no more alarms and I add more 200 Kms today with no problems or alarms!! Knocking on wood!!! Trice!

Cheers

Geez, a R5TDI and a 6 Speed Manual? I'm quite jealous now!

The air suspension is great! I have it in my V6.
As for the alarms, yeah it's normal. Just wait to you get a 'Fault Running Gear Workshop!' alarm.

Which bring up an interesting question, are your alarms and alerts in Portuguese or English??

Hi,

The T-rex does not have portuguese as an option for the language.... :anger:
As such, I config it for english!!
It came Espanol from factory!!! :chainsaw: :censored: :anger: Never!!!

And I got the "'Fault Running Gear Workshop" alarm! Just "solved" it by "rebooting" the T-Rex.... an so far it's fine!

Cheers

6 Speed manual? I didn't know that you could get the T-Reg with a manual 6, in Peru you can get the R5 TDI but it still only comes in the 6-speed tiptronic.
Migpower, could you post a picture of the inside of your car, showing the 6 speed manual gear box?
obrigado

I had this pic somewhere:

Cloth instead of leatherette or leather, R5 TDi manual, cupholder without prongs, airbag lock defeater...

And Migpower: AWESOME pics!!! Thanks a lot! I still have to drive my "T" offroad and this lesson is very helpful.

Sand

For sandy terrain your tires look just fine. The slicker the tire the better, because they will not dig (i.e. Airplane tires are the ideal for sandy terrain. That's what they used on Lanborghini SUV's in the middle East). You need to drop the tire pressure, as low as necessary. And try keep momentum and be very smooth with the gas pedal and steering and shifting.

5 cents worth from a Sahara men who got stuck to his ears...many times.
