I have found that using the Sports mode lets me accelerate smoother and longer in between shifts. Especially between 1st and 2nd gears. Has anyone else noticed this?

And, how does this effect the already seriously bad gas mileage?

Thank you,

Steve

You will see a decrease in gas mileage, simply because the engine is rapping out higher rpm's and the "drive" mode is geared toward fuel economy (for what it's worth in the TOUAREG).

in my V10 the gear change is at 1800rpm in D mode
2200rpm in S mode
I never use S mode, its so fast and powerful in D.
at 1500rpm it does 60mph.
at 2000rpm it does 77mph.

At 50mph it changes into 6th.
It electronically changes from 6th below 50mph.
hope this helps.

Yep - I have the same downshift experience. Here's my take on it. Sport mode - Fast acceleration should also have more abrupt braking. When I brake a little harder then the downshift is less rough. I dunno... just my thoughts =)
