Hi All,

Hopefully someone may have an idea about the shudder i'm getting only during acceleration.

I have a2006 3.0l V6 Toureg and have just started experiencing it this evening, It sounds like it's around the passenger front wheel area.

Checked all round it for anything visible but nothing obvious. ( not sure what I'm looking for tho)

Thought I'd throw it out there to give myself an idea before I take to the garage to have my pants pulled down..

Thanks
Brian

First things first

All four tyres same make, model, tread depth and pressure?

Have you checked alignment and balance?

When is the last time the diesel filter was changed?

First thing I'd check would be the centre carrier bearing, and make sure you bring some KY-gel if you go to the stealer.

Does the shudder occur at a particular speed or engine revs?My v6 has a slight shudder at about 60..65k under accel.Quickly cuts out above and below this speed.Nobody seems to be able to pinpoint cause.Had to have centre d/s bearing replaced<not whole shaft>at about 60k,is a common problem. This reduced problem markedly but did not eliminate it.

Thanks for your responses, convinced it can't be tyre pressure/type/alignment etc as it happened quite suddenly during a long journey. Have checked visible engine mounts, suspension arm/ wishbone etc. still not sure what I'm looking for apart from obvious damage.
Not speed related at all. At any speed the harder I push the more severe the judder.

Center main bearing. Before it let's loose completely it will do this. Once it goes it will be very hard to drive at all. Mine did this for a week and it all the sudden broke free when taking off from a stoplight.

Check for play in driveline, it should be tight and barely move side to side. Check for cracks / separation from bushing and ether bearing carrier bracket or the bearing itself. You may need to remove lower plate to get a better look.

I personally recommend the Vertex solution here, but there are plenty of other ways...including a hose and zip ties...

Thanks Spiegleglatt, removed plate and checked centre support and yep not a lot left of it.. Can't find anything like the Vertex solution
available in the UK tho which is a shame as it looks so simple on YouTube. Don't fancy removing the driveshaft myself( I'm an electrician
not much of a mechanic)..

Good to hear you found the source. Vertex ships international, a number of members have ordered and shipped international with good results. Web site is here:

http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/293812 Touareg Driveshaft Clamping Bearing Support Mount.aspx?gclid=CKGB6673p8sCFceBfgodrNEKNA

I would call them during their business hours and order via phone versus anything online.

This install is very simple, hardest part is removing bearing covers (inner and outer) to re-pack the bearings.

Good luck!
