Should I back out?

Purchased a 2014 TDI. It was newly traded, no fix yet, really dirty.

Leaving town at the same time, they said I could come back and get it all clean and with the emissions fix.

Signed everything but held my trade title based on my final inspection when I return.

I have a 3,000lb RPOD camper. My main reason for the T3.

After reading everything about how the fix effects MPG slightly, the shift points and hunting for gears.

I am really thinking of backing out....really torn on what to do.

If you were concerned for the environment, you shouldn't have a diesel in the first place. Don't fly in an airplane if you really want to save the planet, they put out way more pollution into the atmosphere than any car or truck on the road. The Touareg TDI is cleaner than most diesels made 10 or more years ago even without the fix. The 2008 mandates for DPF and AdBlue made it cleaner.

If you care about how it tows the R-Pod, you will be VERY pleased, regardless of the fix or not. it will still tow like a champ. I owned an R-Pod 177 for almost 5 years, and the Touareg TDI does not really care about having it back there. Get a small WD hitch and smooth out the ride if you wish, but it tows great even without it. Truly effortless towing even in 8th. No 0-60 records will be broken when towing, but it tows great.
