Purchased a 2014 TDI. It was newly traded, no fix yet, really dirty.

Leaving town at the same time, they said I could come back and get it all clean and with the emissions fix.

Signed everything but held my trade title based on my final inspection when I return.

I have a 3,000lb RPOD camper. My main reason for the T3.

After reading everything about how the fix effects MPG slightly, the shift points and hunting for gears.

I am really thinking of backing out....really torn on what to do.

I can't speak to the fix and how it changes towing but 3,000lbs towing shouldn't be a challenge for a Touraeg - no matter the engine. We've pulled our 3,500lb+ Spree over Wolf Creek Pass. With aplomb no less. LOL. :)

Malone tune will get rid of all that post "fix" stuff, and give you a nice bump in power. :)

Have you actually taken the car for a test drive yourself rather than just reading about what might have happened to others?

Have you any experience of driving any Touareg before?

If you haven't driven the car, insist on a decent test drive and see if you like the car for yourself.

Purchasing the car without a drive would be like buying a house having only looked at it from over the gate.

If you were concerned for the environment, you shouldn't have a diesel in the first place. Don't fly in an airplane if you really want to save the planet, they put out way more pollution into the atmosphere than any car or truck on the road. The Touareg TDI is cleaner than most diesels made 10 or more years ago even without the fix. The 2008 mandates for DPF and AdBlue made it cleaner.

If you care about how it tows the R-Pod, you will be VERY pleased, regardless of the fix or not. it will still tow like a champ. I owned an R-Pod 177 for almost 5 years, and the Touareg TDI does not really care about having it back there. Get a small WD hitch and smooth out the ride if you wish, but it tows great even without it. Truly effortless towing even in 8th. No 0-60 records will be broken when towing, but it tows great.

Posting under new name. Spent an hour trying to reset password on my previous name.

I should have clarified, when I said "really dirty", I meant the physical condition of the vehicle (it was just traded in).

Yes, I have driven the car on a normal test drive pre-fix for about 10 min. Felt great!

I spoke with dealer today and they said it was ok if I decided to drop the deal after I inspected and drove the T3 post-fix. (Though I am sure they won't make it easy).

I already use a WD hitch and sway. Towing gave me a scare when another user reported it hunting for gears after the fix on flat ground.

Do you know if Malone tunes changes shift points, because I thought that was controlled by the TCM?
THey have ECU and TCU flashes. Email them and get the answers you seek.

Spoke with Malone. No TCM tune yet. But when they do, it will be basically be the OEM tune, which is good news.

I get back in a few days to do my final drive of the T reg. I am still on the fence and really concerned about a 14 post fix. Reliability, adblue consumption, power loss, no engine brake, everything I have read really scares me....

I just bgt a new 2016 never registered with the fix and traded a 2012 TDI for it. Engine has same power to my feel, shifts at higher rpm levels when cold, but gets to normal after warm up. I don't notice the engine braking, but I always use the manual gear position when going down hill to a stop anyway.
This car will tow what you are talking about with no effort. I tow boats all the time that are heavier than what you will do and no difference that is noticeable from my 2012 unfixed.

Drive it after the fix and make your own decision. It's a great vehicle.
