This is my second treg .. my old one worked great ..this new one having some issues since I bought it I've had the "running gear fault" originally I thought it was a mixture of old air compressor ( which I rebuilt), and the fact that the PRNDS all showing yellow, with tiptronic not functioning. The vehicle drove fine otherwise.. Enter 10,000 miles later I go to get an alignment it had always been a little out and we were going on a road trip. The shop call back says I need new tie rods on one side they can't break the adjuster bolt loose. I tell them I don't have time put it back to the original adjustment and I will get the bolt loose or I will replace the part myself. On the road trip the wheel jiggles so bad my arm almost went numb and I stopped to check the lugs twice . I get home from the trip everything seems fine. Next day I try to leave for work and the treg won't do over 5- 10 mph jumping lunging I hear the awd trying to do something as well sounds like the things about to fall apart. I take it to the local shop thinking my extended warranty would cover.the shop tells me it's the shifter control assembly and want 1000 to change it ...I told them to stop and I would do it...I bout a used one (I know this could be a mistake) I put part in and it does fix the issue ...new problem the part seems faulty won't recognize D untill in sport and feels like it floats in-between position. The part is returnable which is good ...the odd thing is the treg wants to start almost acting like it did and then I get a brake assist fault and the ABS and TCS turn off ..then drives ok again.....
Am I supposed to reset the computer after install?
Is it the used part?
Is my vehicle having another issue that can be making be these parts go out?
Did the jiggle from the crap alignment Wiggle a connection?
Any thought would be great
I don't have a vagcom but am purchasing one asap

The automatic transmission selector mechanism is not mechanically connected to the power train in any way. It's a self-contained unit, whose only connections are electrical to other parts of the car. So, it can't cause any jiggling of the wheels, and its defects can hardly be related to such symptoms, or vice versa. Unless probably the electronics would go totally haywire, and send constantly changing and implausible signals to the transmission (multiple times a second) or what not - but maybe even then not.

That said if you've trouble selecting a specific gear or your car shifts randomly between some of the PRNDS, then it's most likely either the shifter cover with the magnets on it, or the electronics panel over it, that's malfunctioning or damaged. From the sound of what you're saying I'd say either the magnets have fallen or broken off, or somehow the electronics panel got lose and/or is not exactly in the place where it should be.

Also, what exactly is the part you've replaced? Factory part number would be ideal.

I replaced the entire assembly and I've checked the magnets are intact. Also I believe the transmission is mechanically connected thru the Shift cable I had to connect with a bolt on bottom of assembly

Yes. The SSP's I've read say that the shifter mechanically controls the parking pawl.
