Hi,
Just purchased a treg 2 v8. Have the car over a week now and suddenly my car is making a very aggressive clunking sound when shifting from park to reverse. I park in a flat underground beneath my building so parking on a slope isn't the issue. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue? The general shifting in drive is perfect.

This is likely from driveline slack being taken up or a broken motor mount.

If driveline slack it is from an aging center main carrier bearing that has become soft and possibly torn with age. The only remedies are (short term) wait for RPM to drop prior to engaging drive / reverse or (long term) replace OEM carrier bearing with something like Vertex solution. Note that a visual inspection should be done to verify source.

If CMB is going (or if engine mount) replace asap. Failure of CMB is sudden and a real bummer if on a trip or vacation for example.

Can't help specifically but take the time to read the buying a used Touareg thread [link in my signature]. Then you will know what common faults are possibly coming your way.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've just had it in with a german car specialist company. I'm living in Dubai and the general agency service tends to be overpriced and pretty awful. Guy was very impressed with the car in general, commenting that it is possibly the cleanest and smoothest 2008 he's been in recently. So I'm relieved that the car itself seems to be somewhat sound. He's kept the car to do a tranny fluid change and a general service as my next service is due soon anyways. Fingers crossed the issue can be resolved.

Do a gearbox reset when you get it back. Takes 10 seconds.
