If you can't open the iso any mounting program will do what you need. I've used daemon tools lite in the past myself. The update is the same process tho: name the SD car the same as the update file and have the file contents directly in the root of the SD card

Thanks, I opened the .iso and copied it to the root of my sd card I formatted. It then recognized the file and I was able to update.

I was trying to solve an issue I am having with the radio cutting out every 2 seconds but it did not fix it. Now it is also only playing out of the passenger side.

😲 I'd love to help you solve it but it'll be tricky without codes from the unit. Tracking software issues are more luck on our end tbh

I have obdeleven and it seems like it won't communicate with the radio when I scan it. I really think obdeleven was a waste and should have just bought vcds.

I have both VCDS and OBDEleven Pro. Both communicate with the RNS 850 with no problems.
I do think that VCDS is the better of the two and there is a ton more support for it.

I'm not saying obdeleven doesn't communicate with the RNS 850 as a whole. Mine is not (because I think there is an issue with mine) and what I meant to say is that VCDS seems to have more in-depth diagnostics and can pinpoint problems better than obdeleven.

So I was able to resolve my issue. It seems with obdeleven when I did some "autocoding" it had radio checked twice under the modules.

To correct:
1. Connect to car
2. Go into modules at the bottom right
3. Tap the pencil in the lower right.
4. Scroll down still you see radio.
5. Make sure only 1 is checked.
6. Go back out and clear faults

I had to do this twice because the first radio didn't work. Once I ONLY checked the second radio everything worked great. The cut out was resolved and only playing on the passenger side was resolved.

Might try the map update next.

Hi all.. I please need some clarification on upgrading my RNS850 in my 2012 Hybrid. My treg was imported from Japan and is on following FW (see attached). In various forums I read that JAP devices can't be converted due to hardware reasons.. in other forums I read it is possible.. here in NZ they ask 700$ to convert what means it must be possible to convert??
Does anyone have any experience with converting from one region to another? I am so keen on getting the updated 3D Hybrid display. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. I would prefer to do it myself but need some guidance.

Please did you solve this problem? I have the same issue and I do not know what is wrong. Update was done successfully. I think the backup camera just requires calibration to work. But I have issue with audio. Volume up and down not working and no audio sound

Hi all, been trolling the internet to find an update file for my RNS850 (Japanese Touareg imported to New Zealand). The system can be set to English so I'm not too fused about converting it from Japanese to something else - I would just like to upgrade the firmware of my unit to address some Bluetooth related issues and take advantage of the new hybrid (CAR button) screen. Does anyone have any advice or can point me in the right direction to find a Japanese firmware file...?

Well I have a feel good story, thanks to this forum!!! I just bought a 2011 Touareg. Love it, except when I tried to pair my phone up it wouldn't work. My phone didn't see the car, the car was full of old bluetooth profiles. I tried to delete the old profiles and it came back saying it couldn't delete them. I downloaded the software update but just couldn't pull the trigger on modifying something on my new car with something I downloaded off the internet. So I went into the dealer, they tried a few things then had me leave it there so they could run diagnostics on it. They came back and said there was a faulty module 5F....just under $1000 to repair. Ouch. They also said that VW had no software update for my vehicle, despite the present version being 170. I thought if it needs to be replaced, I had nothing to lose by trying the update. The service guys agreed. I came home, did the update and...success! All the old profiles are gone and bluetooth works perfect, both with the phone and audio. I'm a happy man! Thanks to everyone here that made this possible!

Hey would love to help but this was some 6 or 7 years ago and I just vaguely remember doing this. You'll have more luck reading this thread and following the instructions given.

First thing you should do is check and see what firmware version you are running.
Press and hold phone and setup at the same time until the software menu appears.
Post up what you have.
