I also have a 1.6 to 2.0 Can-bus converter for older upgrade

If anyone is considering this upgrade for the older Touareg, I also have a can-bus converter 1.6 to 2.0 that I will include for less than my cost if the nav unit is bought. $100

Hi there,

Thanks for emailing me, here is some clarification.

The GPS antenna will work.

The system will not be plug and play thought. Your current Touareg is on a can-bus 1.6 network, the RNS510 operates over a can-bus 2.0 network, thus you will need a can-bus converter, I had one, but it just sold, I'm looking to see if I can get another.

The rest of your questions I am not sure of, I know someone out here has down this upgrade and they emailed me that the camera module needs to be changed to function with the RNS-510.

You might want to check with our member:

He did the upgrade and know more than I do.

Hope this info helps, I know I did not have answers to al your questions.

Thanks,

Steve

<<I have a 2008 that came with the old style nav but was told that the RNS 510 is a plug and play since mine came with the nav in the first place. Is this true? Also, will all the functions work like instrument display, rear view camera and sat radio. I notice that it comes with a GPS antenna. The existing one won't work? Thanks, don't want to spend 2K and not have all functions working like the old nav.>>

Thank you for the clarification.

I am definitely not an expert on the installation side of things :)

The GPS antenna will work with your system, if you were asking about the radio antenna, you will need the adapter.

I will include both the GPS antenna and the radio antenna adapter.

As far as what its worth, I am offering the best price for this system in the US, you won't find better price for a new system.

I understand its lot of money and certainly respect your decision / choice.

Steve

My question was will my existing OEM antenna work since it was the old nav's antenna. Also, the 08s came with can-bus 2.0 network so it should not need the adaptor. Anyone on this board have instructions on how to convert? Otherwise, $2200 is not worth it if all functions do not work.
