Hi all I have a Touareg v10 2004 with a rns510 radio fitted i think it's out of a 2008 or so. GPS is not working its not picking up my address and when I push the right turning knob it's telling me that the guidances is not activated. Can anyone tell me how to activate it or what could be wrong please. I was told it was working when put into my car.

do you know what version software is loaded? (Hint...hold "SETUP" button for 20 - 30 seconds to see if the 'secret menu' has been activated. It will go from your current screen......to the standard set up screen.......then after a pause it will go to the secret menu. Should find it under the 3rd touch screen selection from the top).

However......I'm thinking you may need a new GPS Antenna (not a huge financial impost....but annoying).

Are you able to input ANY address to get the nav system to define a route? Does the display actually show your local area when 'map' is selected?

Also......do you have battery drain issues with this unit?

I can put in my address as home but keeps picking up Tamworth area not Mudgee were I am. I'll see is I can get the radio removal tools and check the aerial is plugged in or even there.

This is normal. This message tells you you are not "currently" following a route. It does not mean the Navigation is not functional. Pressing the right hand knob, recalls the last Navigation instruction provided by the system. If there is no last instruction, as in the unit is not currently navigating, the response is "The Guidance System is Not Active". Don't misread this as the guidance system is faulty, which it is not.

Being a 2004 you will not be able to integrate the RNS510 into the dashboard or steering wheel controls without a CAN Bus "Bridge". The 2004 is running CAN Bus Version 1.6, and the RNS510 requires CAN Bus version 2.0 to talk to the car. Send a PM to Dragline1570, who may be able to assist with the supplier of an interface "bridge" in Germany. Without that the Car and the RNS510 cannot talk to each other.

A word of caution. The gateway information is this RossTech post is only applicable to vehicles having a "stand-alone" CAN Gateway ( see Photo ). This is NOT applicable to the Touareg which has its CAN Gateway embedded in the Instrument Cluster. The CAN Gateway is in fact a network Router, which routes traffic between the three independent network segments (each is know as a BUS - think "Bus-bar" ). These segments are "Power-train", "Comfort/Convenience" and "Infotainment". These segments are unable to be directly connected as they have different clocking speeds (frequencies), hence the need for a router.

The coding information in the post is applicable to the Touareg.

Kind Regards
Stuart...
