I just acquired a 2013 Touareg Lux with RNS-850. Day #1 I could not get my phone to pair with bluetooth. After a lot of reading and trial/error, I found a number of issues and so far nothing has helped.

Initially I could see the car listed in bluetooth devices but it wouldn't pair. Searching from RNS screen just said it was looking for devices and never completed.

I did a full factory reset of all settings in the RNS-850. After this, my phone doesn't even see the car and searching from the RNS never completes (same as before).

I tried the 5-button reset several times. No difference.

I tried deleting individual and all bluetooth devices from the RNS-850 menu. It fails saying it can't delete them.

The internet says to check the firmware version and update it to fix a number of bluetooth issues. That's where I get stuck. This device WILL NOT go into the engineering screen to either look at or update the firmware version. Pressing PHONE and SETUP does absolutely nothing. I'm willing to try the update myself, but I'm at a dead-end if I can't get into the update screen.

Anyone able to help me figure out what to do next?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Are you pressing PHONE and SETUP at the same time and holding them in until it gets to that screen?

Apparently I was being too precise. I found one of the firmware update TSBs that said you have to press SETUP just slightly before PHONE then hold them. Sure enough, this worked. I had been trying to press them exactly at the same time which didn't seem to do the job. Anyway, I got in, firmware updated, and bluetooth working again. Woo-hoo!
