Has anybody out there actually done the switch in a 06 & 08 Touareg to a RNS-510. How difficult really? Was it worth it? Does everything work okay after completion?

Not sure if it helps, but I put an RNS510 in to my '03 V10, I needed the kufatec CAN adapter, the only awkard bit was fitting it back in with the adapter in place, that and the fact that somebody had butchered the wires on the original unit to fit a bluetooth interface, but that's a different story.
All works as expected. I.E. No sat nav info on the driver display and can't skip forwards / backwards through the tracks.
I am waiting for my RNS510 to arrive (should be here in about a week or so) but in the mean time i did plug in an RNS510 from a Jetta/EOS last week (same unit, different faceplate)... it was plug and play... i just unpluged the old nav unit and plugged in the RNS510... everything worked great (i just couldn't actually lock it in place.)
in a week or so i should be able to report back on the proper install. One thing i know i have to do is run a Sirus extension cable and unplug the Sirus tuner currently in the car. The RNS510 has an integrated tuner... so you need to run the ant cable from the back of the car up to the RNS unit. I think that's about all i will need to do.
BTW... the Jetta RNS unit i have is new (or like new.. not entirely sure) and incudes preloaded maps, gps annt, etc. and i am selling it for $1500. Originally purcahsed it because we were going to try to retro fit it into a Touareg (I have a Touareg RNS face plate but it turns out i was still missing a piece so i didnt even try.) Touareg units were impossible to find and it seemed like a possbiel path. Anyway.. if someone out there has a Jetta/Eos/Golf/Tiguan and they want a RNS510 navigation system then i can hook you up for $1500 (and i am taking a loss on that... just need to get rid of it.)
VW Dealers can order then... if you are willing to take a refirb unit (as i was) you can save some money. There are none (new or refurb) in the USA... so they have to order from Germany.
