Thanks Curious, can you upload a photo showing the location of the Redarc control knob please? My BIL is looking to have the same fitted some time soon.

Fantastic, thanks for that, they're a great unit in how they work and very discreet too.

I had one in my T3 and got one in my R50 now too and love them.

I use a clip-on reverse camera screen (Ebay, from china) which fits on the rear view mirror. It's powered from a fuse below the drivers knee, and when not switched on, is a normal rear view mirror (although tinted, but I don't find that an issue). When I plug the caravan camera into the cable connector next to the towbar, I switch the screen on and get a large rear view, just as if it was a mirror (it's actually much bigger than the standard mirror). The camera cable was run by the autoelec during the wiring job.
I tried using the in-car screen on my MY15, but video-in-motion prevented me. I'm sure that could be bypassed with a vagcom though. I like my solution because it uses the rear view mirror, which is usually redundant when towing a caravan anyway, and is therefore completely natural to use and leaves the car screen free for other uses.
In terms of the Towpro switch, my autoelec contacted Redarc who recommended the switch was fitted on the centre console, using a switch blank space. I think that blank will eventually be the stop/start switch, which is not fitted to the launch model.

Hi,

Been thinking about sharing my experience and thoughts on the latest 2019 CR Touareg for a while now, finally got some time so here it is. Review is based upon driving the new Touareg over last three months, mostly on road and some dirt track but no the usual low gear off road stuff I sometimes get into.

Lets start with the key, as its the first experience before you get to the Touareg, its slimmer than ever before, easier to put it in the pocket and forgetting it, rather than the bulge from the previous gen keys. Does the key feel and look premium, hmm, it could be better.

Walking up to the car, I like the look of it, the grey black combo or the blue black combo is nice. The car unlocks quickly as you grab the handle, no delay.

SEATING
Next the seats, super comfy, love the heating/cooling with massage function, easy to get to by pressing the centre button on the side of the seat buttons, brings up the menu onscreen to change massage function, setting. Massage is available for passenger but not in the rear. Rear leg room etc is more than before and again its comfortable. and they do recline too.
some talk about the longevity of the leather with the massage function but its so good that I couldnt care less :) i guess time will tell how well the leather holds.
rear passenger get window blinds now as well, see pictures. USB ports are handy in the back and front.

Driver seat adjustment along with steering reach is great, very comfortable setup.

Entry and exit from the drivers seat is quite good, again the best out out of all the models.

View out from the drivers seat is the best ever, it almost feels like towering over the bonnet like in a range rover, again i like it.

DISPLAY/NAV
Less switches around as you see from pics, btw the big nav screen is a little far away for me and I dont have long arms, could have been closer i reckon. I can reach the nav buttons easily in my 2015 V8 but here i have to edge the back off the seat.
Get used to the button less vehicle, more menus, etc, but essentials are easy accessible and the massive screen can be customised to have favs.
Nav/maps works well, same as your phone scroll pinch zoom etc, pretty slick.
The centre MFI screen is changeable too, use the view button or the menu to have different settings.
Screen senses the fingers coming close and changes the layout to help press the right buttons.

Offroad and other settings can be customised as preferred. roll pitch sensors show the angles now, which we never had.

The HUD is nice, and again you can change its placement and the data it shows, inc map based speed limits, I know some folks dont have this in their Touaregs.

Only issue I experienced was the sun glare can light up the HUD box and it reflects a bit on the windscreen, only on certain angles though.

Good for the Touareg to have HUD finally!

Apple Android play works well so no complaints, could be wireless though, like the pad area on the back of the gear lever where you can charge your phone wirelessly and the dash will remind you to take your phone with you, incase you forgot it was there in that hole.

All sorts of driver settings can be saved to the key and under a profile in the nav.

Front/side assist feature is cool, at an intersection it sees left and right and moniors traffic either side and displays red or green boxes alerting the driver of oncoming cars, cool.

We now have oil temp back in the Touareg! Just scroll into driving data and see the oil or water temps.

LIGHTING
ambient lighting with many colors ofcourse, lights everywhere, inc the side pockets in the doors.
Sweeping indicators and lights are nice, headlights do a great work lighting it all up. They are matrix and have over a hundered individual lights in it to control the throw and where it lights up. You can see the blocks lightup as you drive around.
This is different tech to the Touaregs so far where the lamps swivelled.
DRLs are quite bright too.
Interior lighting can be individually controlled for brightness.

ENGINE
Fire up the engine with the start button or key and its super quiet, nvh levels are so low! engine and drive is bloody smooth. Plenty of grunt and power in the v6 and delivery is smooth and its pretty quick off the mark.
Lift the bonnet and you'll notice two latches now lock it down rather than the one we're used to. Engine bay is clean and good on the eyes, havent looked deep into wheres what and how easy it would be for DIY in future.
The two air intakes are right on top going into the back of the front centre grille, higher than ever before.

TRANSMISSION
I understand the transmission is made of aluminium now, which makes it super lightweight and so silent, almost an electric car like feeling.
The gear lever is no longer a mechanical one, its all shift by wire, first for the Touareg, so press a button on it to park or shift slightly for D etc.
Shifts are smooth as, power available throughout, sport mode ofcourse makes it more sporty as it has been in previous models.
I like what vw have done with the light weight transmission making it so quite and refined.

SUSPENSION
The 48v based air suspension is so comfortable, great job vw! even in sport or comfort it doesnt wallow, its constantly monitoring and making adjustments, love it. Go through a corner and its like a car and plush.nice work!
shift the suspension to high or low, its quick to achieve the result.
Riding on 20 inch wheels it eats most potholes still, I found the new CR model very comfortable so anyone with bad back will love it.

AIR CON
All good here, one key difference to get used to is the centre vent is no longer there as the massive screen takes the real estate. theres a vent below it and another on top of the dash. So get used to this change in the Touareg. Felt different for me for sure.
Another cool feature is the system detects if someone is sitting on the passenger seat and then starts the air con in that area, see the pic.

BOOT
Boot is the largest every, the partition now is electric and goes up and down as you open the boot, nice touch. space saver and bits are under the floor as usual and plenty of space for other bits. No halogens there either, all LED lighting it up.
Theres buttons there to lower rear suspension and fold seats.

STEERING
Btw another first, the touareg now has electric steering so it helps keep you in between the lanes and of course helps with parking etc. All up its balanced very well and no pull to the left :)
I love how it assist in driving normally, the slight corrections to keep you centered.

TOWING
One concern is re the ball weight and the new laws, see my other post on it, hopefully this can be clarified by vw. So a watchout for those planning to buy it to pull heavy boats or vans.
With additional people in the back the label states that the ball weight is lower, which makes sense, but this is the first time such a label has been explicity applied.
Sadly, as the engine variant/power goes up the ball weight goes down. The V8, being the most powerful engine to pull anything has the least ball weight. WTH! Not happy with this one.

All up there are improvements everywhere, steering, transmission, noise levels, technology, lighting, ambience, comfort, etc etc.
Would i buy one? sure, waiting for the V8 :)... though this ball weight issue is disappointing.

Hope this is review is useful to some. Like i said most of my driving was in town in traffic or on motorways where I loved driving it. in heavy traffic the lane assist with traffic assist helps. its smoother than ever before.

Jumping back into my 2015 V8 Touareg makes it feel cramped inside and the screen look tiny, thats how spacious the interior is of the CR. The dash is big wide and it feels roomier.

What I dont like...the volume, track change switches for example, kinda plasticky and feel cheap. The touch screen is great and very responsive but would be good to have haptic.
Other than that its a great ride. I'll add some bits as I recall and experience more of it, hopefully off road... here are the associated pics.... Thanks for the review. I have a 2019 Touareg with Innovision. I agree with all your comments but there are a few areas to be aware of if buying one. I was told by 5 different salesmen that it had Tow Assist...not so. You need to be careful as the average salesman has got little knowledge of the features of the new Touraeg. Didn't like the anologue dials so spent the 8k to upgrade to the Innovation pack which is good but could have lived with a full digital cockpit and smaller main screen but not offered. Access to the driver's seat in the 190 TDI is abysmal unless you are a 6 foot 8 German or a acrobat. High sided seats and a long bonnet mean you have to raise the seat to see the corners of the bonnet. This means you need to crawl into the driver's seat ever time you get in. There are individual seat/mirror settings but this does not allow easy access. Extremely annoying and unforgivable in a car costing this amount. A $20k Corolla does it better. If test driving, adjust the seat to see the corners of the bonnet then get out and "try" to get in!!!. It is an exercise by VW of design over practicality and poor user based initial testing. Notified VW Australia of the issue but that was a waste of time. Either get the Premium with Innovision (another $14) or look elsewhere.

thanks for sharing.
interesting experience re seat entry, for me, and I am opposite to the german, its the easiest, most comfortable in terms of entry, seating and exit. love it.
cant you use easy/entry so seat lowers on entry and goes up as you drive?
i guess its such a personal thing.
Not tow assist here in Oz so far, hopefully it will come out soon. wouldnt mind getting a Bruder to tow :)

Gents,I have a question on the 2020 Toureg. It relates to the towing package and what things should or should not change when a trailer is attached (ie plugged into the electrical socket). I had a 2014 7P Touareg and these two things noted below changed when trailer was plugged in.

  1. Tailgate would not lift up electronically (required manual lifting - a good feature as my boat bow would be whacked by the door as it raised if not inhibited)
  2. The rear corner blind spot detectors are turned off (orange lamps in the exterior mirrors)
Maybe there are some other things to add to this list, but my Brother in law has noted his tailgate is not inhibited from electrically lifting even with caravan plugged in. Is this right?

Regards

Pete.

Hi Guys I have read a lot about CR Treg as I am still thinking about an Upgrade. The post from Curious Mind said that you can get a bigger fuel tank" CR Premium, Sunroof and Sound & Comfort package. Why? Would cost slightly cheaper than the Launch Edition, but you would get. All of the Launch Edition extras (minus I think the massage front seats) plus Upgraded sound system (sub-woofer in boot), 360 deg camera view as well as heated rear seats and a BIGGER fuel tank 90ltrs up from 75ltrs (A must for those towing/touring)" Just checking because I could not find any mention of larger tank. This is one of the issues which put me off an upgrade? from my 7L to the CR including the now designated towball weight. OLIE

I assumed as the car had different setting for different people i.e. mirrors/ seats etc that it would have easy access. Not do, and it took a number of phone calls to different dealers and three emails to VW Australia to find out. My previous car had easy access where the seat went back and forward automatically but you could easily get out/in with the seat in the driving position. Not do with this car. It is especially annoying if you (#$#) put the seat down when you stop and when you want to get back in, the seat automatically rises to the higher ,"crawl in" position. Beggars belief why it does not either stay down (then you have got to manually raise it) or move up and forward after you get in allowing easy access. After much delay VW advised easy access only avbl on the Premium. Why it is not standard is incredibly stupid given the huge annoyance factor ever time you crawl into the car and the amount of other tech gear standard. Would have normally opted for the Premium but didn't need most of the gear and preferred to spend money (too much) on the Innovision package.. I agree with you, nice car, but let down badly in this instance by poor ergonomic design, a lack of user acceptance testing and poor customer service by VW Australia

Does the CR have 3 memory seat positions
Set option 3 for easy entry/exit and 1 & 2 as driving positions
Just change after you get in or about to get out?

You got me thinking, this could be enabled perhaps with vcds.
Just need the two scans, your problem could be solved

It does have seperate seat settings for different driver's and I did try setting mine as normal and setting another driver setting as seat fully down and selecting the other driver setting before I got out. Unfortunately it seemed to revert to my setting when I opened the door with the seat electrics raising it to my original position. If it worked it would be worth selecting it on stopping and getting in when it was down and reselecting to my setting to bring it up. Rather inelegant but probably better than current entry antics. Thanks for your help.

Would be nice if it was so. Any idea of anyone in the Brisbane area who specialises in using vcds in fixing problems such as this?

Both front seats move automatically to the easy entry position when the door is opened to get out, and on entry, it moves to the preset positions when the start button is pressed. I haven't tried setting up a second position as I am the only driver.

To clarify I meant there could be another variant, spec of the Touareg out soon that could better match your needs :)
