The REST function on my 2011 TDI has never functioned properly. The display comes on properly when I press the button, however within a minute the output air cools down. It's pretty much as if the circulation pump doesn't run at all.
Tonight I tried to activate the circulation pump via a VCDS output test. I could hear the pump running.
Next, with the ignition on, but without the engine running, I left the heat fan operating. As expected, the output air cools down rapidly. I then activated the circulation pump via VCDS, and the air immediately heated up.
This tells me that the pump and wiring are good.
I'm sure I'm using the REST function correctly. My folks have the same exact car, and when I try the exact same settings on the HVAC controls, the REST function on their car works exactly as it should.
A full VCDS scan shows a "component protection" fault in the HVAC module. I'm not entirely familiar with what this means, and was wondering if this might be the cause of the REST function not working properly.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate it.
Below is a copy of the HVAC portion of my most recent scan.
