Replace the the sensor and the light will turn off. However you probably need to replace the pad as the sensor is activated meaning your pad are worn down.

My "Check Brake Pad" light also just came on last night. I understand that the pads, when replaced, will have a new sensor and that will turn off the light. My question is how much pad is still available for use- a couple of days? weeks? I can get it done, but just not right away.

Depends on what you plan to drive, but probably fine for a couple of weeks. I drove it to work for two weeks before changing, +/- 40 miles per day per trip.
