Hi folks,

I've got a 2007 (manufactured 12/07) Touareg, with the factory Blaupunkt DVD navigation system, a 6-CD changer, and some sort of amplifier installed in the rear corner of the car, above the CD changer. With this configuration in mind, I've yet to be able to determine if it's possible to retain use of the factory amplifier, with an aftermarket head unit I've already got. I am 100% sure that the radio in the vehicle currently is DVD-based, as the label on the side of the head unit says so explicitly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you verify the 9th digit of your VIN. with a production date of 12/07 you should have a 2008 Touareg and the differences between the two years are massive. If you attach your VIN I can find the exact equipment in your car and help point you in the right direction.

Thank you for the offer. The 9th digit of my VIN is 7. I've sent a PM to you with my VIN.

Sorry I said 9th digit and not 10th. Your car is a 2008 based off the VIN and has sound package 1 PR-9VK.

I believe this Axxess interface will allow you to achieve your goal. Touareg is not listed but I'm unaware of any major wiring differences or other complications that would make this install different than say a 2008 Passat with a base amplified system which is covered by this interface. What is your goal of replacing the factory navigation unit with an aftermarket unit? There might be a better option than replacement that is also more cost friendly.

Either buy the touareg specific android radio or buy the radio plus install kit from Crutchfield.

Google / research Crutchfield. They are really that good.

I have a 2006 with VIN WVGPT77L86D023506 - DVD Nav, cd changer, etc. I've got a Sony double din installed but using the XSVI-9003-NAV from Crutchfield (listed as compatible), the radio doesn't turn off until the vehicle sleeps (I haven't timed it yet). I've tried the initialization procedure any number of times and even tried a PAC RP4-VW11 and that interface doesn't turn on the amp. The Axxess XSVI-9003-NAV sounds great, works great, sound from all speakers, etc. The only issue is that it doesn't turn off. Would the VWTO-01 you've linked above work with my system? Sorry to hijack, but I can't find anything definitive other than using an android-based head unit and I really like the Sony XAV-AX5000.
