Hi, I'm the new guy in this Treg club.
Unfortunately, my first thread is for trouble shooting.
I got use Treg in last December. It was 2016 year model with 12K mileage. Here is my long story.
1. when I get the car, there was warning message that "Instrument Cluster Faulty". The first owner told me that it will disappear when if I restart the system in dealership service.
(this is my biggest mistake!)
2. a month later, I visit the dealership center and they told me that the car had an accident before and the cluster should be replaced with brand new cluster. it was around USD 1,400.
3. That time, I could not trust them as their service was extremely poor and expensive. So, I went to third party garage and ordered the cluster.
4. After the cluster replacement, the garage told me that the new cluster should be activated through authorized dealership center. the Cluster showed "Safe mode" at that time.
5. I went to dealership again but they told me that they cannot activate the the cluster which is ordered and fitted by third party garage.
6. After long argument I gave up and refunded the cluster. And I requested the dealership center to order new cluster and fix it.
7. Now the center is saying even if they replace with new cluster, 99% it will not work as I have tried to fit another cluster in third party shop. If I want to make it works, I have to replace every control unit as car will require new identity. the cost will be almost USD 100,000.

My question is the above no.7 is possible scenario and there is no other way? I'm really frustrated.

Am I correct in assuming the car now has original instrument cluster reinstalled and that to all intents and purposes the car dashboard is assembled as you originally purchased it?

if yes, then what message are you now getting?


My next step would be to find a good independent VW workshop that has VCDS by Ross-Tech - specifically VCDS.

You can buy VCDS yourself if your are PC competent and understand that you don't change anything without first recording the original settings!!


Otherwise pay them to scan the car and record any and all faults and send them to you by email so you can post the output on here.


Then they should try and clear all the faults.


Then you drive the car few miles and return for another scan to see which, if any, faults have returned.


Then you post those results too.


People have changed instrument panels before but I don't ever recall this kind of "You've buggered it up, Sir, and please bend right over while we shaft you for $100K to fix it."


Alternatively I would simply go to another VW dealer elsewhere and, without disclosing any of the history to date, get them to take a look.

Yes, the car now has original instrument cluster reinstalled and there is no mechanical problem in the car. Only problem is the Instrument cluster.
I did the VCDS scanning in the third party workshop before trying the first replacement. The workshop had advised me that errors detected at that time will disappear once the cluster is replaced.
I will upload the error codes shortly.

Unfortunately, there is only one VW dealer here in Qatar and there's no other VW authorized workshop. Plus, the dealer service is horrible in QATAR.
The dealer is now saying that immobilizer will not accept the new cluster and immobilizer will lock the car as I have tried to replace the cluster in third party workshop.
Then, the car will not work even if the original cluster is reinstalled.

Tomorrow, I will meet technical manager of the dealer. I will update after the meeting.

Are the speedo and other instruments working or not?

Please see attached photo. All needles works properly. I cannot use cruise control, bluetooth, etc. And I guess some of warning light may not working now.
