repair? air compressor hose leak/pierced

recently while adding air to the right rear wheel, the right front door shut on the hose. as luck would have it, the hose got pinched in the door jamb latch assembly & now has a small hole.

i can inflate up to 25 lbs before the pressure going into the hose equalizes with the tire & forces air through the hole mentioned above. if i press firmly on the "nick/injury" i can all but stop the leak & bring the pressure up to the required 46 - however my hand cramps quickly.

the hole is sort of at an angle - hence i can press the "flap" shut. the place that's cut is probably 2 - 3 mm but obviously enough. :-(

i'd like suggestions on how to repair the hose. i've thought about electrical or guerilla tape wrapped VERY tightly several times several inches on either side of the hole… but i wonder if it will hold up to the pressure.

feedback?

Probably best to find a coupling fitting sized for the 6mm? hose. Should be just push on. simple. I just bought one at Lowes for 1/4" polyethylene tubing for $3.40. You should be able to spot one if you do a google search.

ah-ha - thanks for the ideas!!

response 1 - cut out the bad part & splice/fuse it back together with a connector that will withstand the pressure - right?

response 2 - put a (loose) "wrap" around the flaw & heat shrink that in place around the tube - right?

Make a "sleeve" out of rubber hose that will fit around your existing hose. Slit the sleeve longitudinally and slip it over the repair area. You could slather on some RTV if you want, too. Then put hose clamps over the patch, making sure that one of the clamps is directly over the nicked area.

It won't be pretty, but it should probably hold up since you said that you can crimp the hose and get it to seal.
